Ruger did NOT replace my gun!

There was some sort of miscommunication.... The replaced the barrel/receiver, and the sights. Thats it..... Oh well... they did rebuild the gun for the cost of shipping ($36  ).

Question: Is the Comp model any more accurate then the 6 7/8 bull barrel gov target model? Same length barrel btw.

If not, off to the machine shop to be drilled and tapped... If so, I don't know....

Nice to have my 22 plinker back, period. Never knew what I had till it was gone... ;)

Stay safe

I never saw a compensator add accuracy to a pistol. Controllability maybe, but not accuracy. With a .22, the controllability issue is a moot point!

Comped .22 a moot point......Except to the very few who may need another two tenths of a point in a final to make the difference between grits in the camper or taking a limo to a five star joint.

Heres the story... (abridged)

I examined my gun and thought the front sight was bent or loose, and it made sense when my groups went bad. And I was having feeding problems too. As it turns out, the barrel was coming unscrewed from the receiver!!! The feeding trouble was from the extractor rubing and hanging on the cutout for it.

I sent it back to Ruger through the shop it was bought from (new). then there was a miscomunication, and we thought that Ruger was going to send me a brand new gun. A completly new gun.

I had it all planed out. Trade the new one in on a Competition model and just pay the price difference. But Ruger sent me the old gun with new sights and a barrel/receiver. It can't be sold as new now..... All I want is a drilled and tapped gun. So this one is going to the machine shop to get drilled and tapped.

My question was not asked clearly... so, heres shot two...

Is the Competition Model Mk II more mechanically accurate than my Govenment Target model with the same length barrel?

The Competition model is the one that has a slab sided barrel, drilled and tapped receiver, recessed target crown, and fancy grips.

Oh I see...

You wanted to send Ruger a used broken gun that they would replace with a NIB gun and you would then trade the NIB gun for something else. My how dreadful of Ruger to spoil your plans!

IIRC, Ruger sent correspondence, after they'd received/examined the defective mk2, that made it seem that they would replace the entire gun. This was not an expectation from the outset, but a bonus discovered after the fact.

Also, this was not an old gun.

Walther did this for me with my P99. Oh, it was 4 years out of warrenty and I was the second owner. Oh and they paid shipping. :)

Springfield is trying to make me pay to ship them a 2 month old gun that has serious problems, good thing I work at a gun shop, my boss promised to take care of it for me, was surprised since Springfield always paid the shipping for her. I think most companies will foot your shipping bill if you know how to ask.

O.K., I musunderstood your abbreviations, Ninja. I doubt that there is any accuracy difference between the guns you are asking about. There may be a difference between any two guns in particular, but that is true of all firearms. One S&W Model 41 well may out-shoot another. More important to a target shooter are the trigger pull and the balance. If these are good, you will score well with the piece. If they are poor, no amount of mechanical accuracy will make it work for you.

Clemson,

Thank you. That was the info I was lookin for. As for the weight and balance, they are ok on this model, but the competition model is balanced a little better... But as long as the barrel is just as acurate as the next, I can practice till I am just as good with it. And the practice is the fun part! :D

Tom B,

I never even expected them to replace anything. I thought they would just somehow fix the old one. I was upset a bit by the miscomunication, not the actions taken by Ruger. But, is was still a factory defect, and total replacement does not seem out of the question for such a problem. This was basicly a new gun, that I took very good care of, that started to fall apart at the seems..... But I am happy with what they did to fix it. ;)

Thank you for the replies, and sorry it took so long for me to get back to you all. I spent 8 hours on the road day before yesterday, and 20 hours on the road the weekend before that.... I am still recovering... Again, thank you, and stay safe.
