Ruger bolt action rifles

I had 4 rifles stolen from my house a week ago, including my varmint rifle. Because of budget constraints I can't afford the rifle I would like. Anyway, I saw that the local gun shop had a ruger bolt action rifle (not bull barrel) chambered for .223. It seems like a decent rifle for the price but I have never owned a ruger bolt action rifle or know anything about them. Any input on the pro's and con's of Ruger's bolt action rifles would be much appreciated.

I like em

I have a 77/22 Ruger bolt-action rifle in .22 long rifle. It is a great performer that has kept my skills sharp for larger calibers.

I like the fact that the Ruger centerfire bolt-actions have a Mauser-type extractor, three-position safety, built-in scope mounts and the option of an all-weather version.

If you are going to shoot a lot of rounds, a heavy barrel is worth looking into because they handle the heat from numerous successive shots. I would rather carry the standard weight barrel while hunting because I'm not afraid to hike while hunting. (This means I'm not a lazy fat guy who needs an ATV to get to a stand a half mile into the woods) Sorry.

I'd look into the stainless with composite stock with a matte black scope.

Bye

Thanks for the advice. The rifle is stainless steel with a black stock. Do Rugers only accept ruger scope mounts or could you use say, leupold rings?

Leupold makes rings that fit rugers. I have heard mostly good things about rugers, but they have triggers that are hard to adjust. rumor???

Ok, I think I have urh figured out. Doing a little research and it seems that Rugers triggers aren't adjustible which sucks. I have read varying reports on accuracy, although all major rifle makers have this problem it seems. Guess I am going to look for an affordable Remington or Winchester.

I have a Ruger 77 Mk II in .223 that came with the tort-liability trigger. I put a Timney on it; a piece of cake for the installation.

I put my 30-year old Leupold 3X9 on it; it regularly shoots well inside an inch at 100 yards with Brand X ammo.

Does an excellent job on turtles. :)

Ruger Bolt Actions

I just purchased a Ruger 77 Mk II in 2506. Bought new Rem. Brass and some Sierra 120 gr. hpbt's. The third group out of the rifle was a 3/4 " group (100 yds). Am currently working on getting that a little less. I did not try the trigger when I was looking at the gun in the Gunshop. I realized that when I was about to fire my first round. What a surprise. It must be 3-4 lbs., Smooth as silk. You definitely Cannot go wrong with a RUGER!!!
