This pertains to my quest for a .45 Colt field revolver. Can a Ruger Blackhawk handle very heavy loads, ie. Buffalo Bore type stuff (325gr. @ ~ 1300fps)? Ruger makes the B'hawk in the configuration I want, namely with a standard 5.5" barrel. All I see listed in their Super B'hawk is a Bisley Hunter (7.5" Ribbed barrel). Thanks.
Note: Well Buffalo Bore's website says yes, so then what is the "reason de etre" for the Super B'hawk? Simply to tame recoil with it's increased weight?
If you'll notice the Super Blackhawk is only offered in .44 Magnum. This is because the .44 operates at much higher pressures than the .45 Colt even when loaded with the heavier bullets at similar velocities.
John Linebaugh explained it in an article he wrote called "The .45 Colt Dissolving The Myth, Discovering The Potential".
