Has anyone ever seen a Blackhawk top strap marked like this and know what it's supposed to mean or indicate?

Its a Lotus flower bestowed by the gods to grant you fertility, health, and cheap ammo.

sorry, couldn't resist. No idea what it means; looks nice though.

It's a Buckeye edition. They used to be a distributor who on occasion had special editions made for them. I used to have a Buckeye .44-40 / 10mm convertible with the same marking.

Lotus flower... *snickers*
I like the cheap ammo theory though! :p

Thanks TMD. This one is one in an online auction in 38-40/10mm convertible. The photo struck me because I'd never seen a marking like that.

Would be a fun caliber to play with.

Yes, it was a Buckeye special run. And TMD, you had a .38-40/10 mm convertible. The .38-40 and 10 mm are both .40 caliber. The .44-40 is .44 caliber.

BTW I still have my ,38-40/10 mm Blackhawk.

Yup, .38-40. Don't know why I had 44 on my mind. Not sure why they are bringing these days but I sold mine for a pretty penny about 4 years ago.

Yep it's a buckeye I have the 38/40 10mm version and big brother has the matching 32/20 32 H&R. His gun is kinda over built for caliber:o

And yes the 38/40 is a fun one and ironic that the FBI 100 years after it's introduction decided that a .400 diameter 180gr bullet at just under 1000 fps is the perfect man stopper.
here's a good article with some reloading data.

Good shooter in that caliber. I also have the companion in 32 H&R/32 WCF with same serial number. Had the 32 H&R cylinder bored out for 327 Mag.

Yup, that's the buckeye flower. I own two of these (why two, why not?) revolvers and they are extremely fun to shoot. The barrel is 6-1/2", which balances nicely in the hand. This got me into reloading, as both calibers were extremely expense to buy; the only one making .38-40 ammo at the time was Winchester Western. It's like having two different guns for the price of one...the 10mm is very "snappy" and the .38-40 is very "shootable". The 10mm cylinder has to be kept clean, as it headspaces in the cylinder and sometimes small bits of brass will clip off, making it difficult to load. I know that cylinders are not supposed to be interchangeable but I long ago stopped trying to match cylinder to pistol...they shoot out of both just fine.

.357 BlackHawk

I have one marked on the top of barrel ( Made In The 200 TH Year Of American Liberty ). A MK1 .22 Target too. hdbiker

Cabalas had a Buckeye with both cylinders last time I was there in the Gun Library. I could only see the first part of the tag because it was under another tag but it started with ‘9’ so the want $900+ for it.

That price is not unreasonable at all if its in pristine condition. I sold mine for that much 5 years ago.
