Ruger Blackhawk loading gate alignment

I got a brand new Blackhawk for Christmas in 45 colt. When you open the loading gate and turn the cylinder till it clicks and the ratchet locks it from turning backwards, the hole in the cylinder and the loading gate do not line up enough to insert or remove a cartridge. You have to turn the cylinder and hold it between clicks to align properly.

Is this normal for a Blackhawk?

That's normal. The cylinder does not rotate backwards. If you miss loading or unloading a round, you have to rotate the cylinder all the way around again.
