Just bought a Blackhawk 4 5/8"? Its used but less than a box of shells thru it.
A couple of questions?
Trigger is not great, a little creep and about 5lbs, is it hard to get a trigger job? Avg cost?
What holster do you use or recommend?

There are several good holsters available. I use an El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons. Bianchi offers their model 1 Lawman. If you prefer crossdraw, Galco has the Outdoorsman SAO.

Hit MidwayUSA and get a spring kit. I like the 17 lb main and 30 lb trigger return.

the Poormans approach, but for about 10 bucks, this works really well

Is there a downside to the poormans trigger job? Does having one side off cause longer hammer fall time or another problem?

I'd take a needle-nosed plier and put a bend in each leg of the trigger return spring to accomplish the same thing and keep both legs attached.
Secondly, I'd leave the hammer spring alone. A lighter spring is going to increase lock time and might open your groups up as much or more than the heavy, creepy trigger.
If you've got creep, get a good smith to polish up your engagement surfaces properly, which will lighten up that trigger. You'll then have a great trigger that will enable you to, if you wish to pursue this accuracy thing further, actually put a heavier hammer spring on. That's the way to go.

No to both. Hammer fall time is only affected by the hammer spring .... "don't touch it". The trigger return spring though you can play with ... bend, drop a leg, cut a leg, buy different pound trigger springs, etc.

A trigger job from a smith will run you from $75 to $350 ... depending. I am going through Bob Munden for one of mine and it is going to cost around $100 and that is under half of what he normally charges.... Always wanted a gun 'tuned' by the master of SA revolvers... So we will see :) .

Power Custom makes a drop in hammer trigger spring kit for about 150 bucks, besides getting the super 2.5 lb glass like trigger pull you also get the advantage of the chambers lining up with the clicks and the 4 click Colt or OMBH sound and a half cock feature., ad a free spin pawl for an extra 20 bucks and you got a semi custom do it yourself NMBH.

Tonight I removed the return spring and bent it on both ends per another post and reconnected to pin. Trigger is 2lb 5oz which is great, but there is a slight amount of movement before break although its very smooth. I'll try this and see if my groups are better.

I've carried my Rugers and a cpl of Colts in a Tom Threepersons design for over 40 years now...through most of the western states, as well as back here in KY, TN and NC, it's been all that I've needed. The open top design allows easy access, the holster itself is fitted to the gun and most often does not need a safety strap or hammer thong.

If the weather's dry, it offers good protection to the gun without impeding the draw. In wet weather, I wear it under my coat or rain gear. Worn high on the pants belt it's comfortable when sitting in a vehicle with barrels up to 5".

I like a slightly forward cant to the drop, pitching the grip slightly forward for ease of draw. Here's a pic of a cpl my sons and I have made up for our use, but El Paso Saddlery offers them with first class workmanship.

Best Regards, Rod
