What is a fair price for a ruger blackhawk chambered in 357 mag? I would say in fair condition. Ser #34-xxxxx. Shows some wear on the blueing. The guy wants $350.00 for it. worth it or pass. thanks
About right but in the end it matters if it's worth that amount to YOU. It's a late '70's production so nothing particularly special about it. Just a good, reliable revolver.
I think alot depends on location and barrel length. The shorter barrel guns are my favorite so I will pay a little more for a short barrel if its a gun I want. Also $350 is not bad if you want the gun, It takes alot to wear out a Blackhawk in 357 also is the gun a convertable with the 9mm cylinder. http://www.ruger.com/service/productHistory/RE-NMBhawk357.html check this link and it shows the gun produced around 1978 or 1979
So i ended up picking up a 357 blackhawk with a 5 digit serial number for the same price. it has the new saftey up grade and I got it with the original parts. Its in nice shape with a little holster wear and dates to right around 1962. It also has the 6 inch barrel.
I traded for mine, manuf 1979. Due to some bad horse trading on my part I had a lot more dollars in the semi I traded for it and would still make the same deal in a heartbeat, I like my 357 Mag BH that much.
If you put the old parts in, you MUST keep an empty chamber under the hammer when carrying in the field. Thats WHY Ruger came out with the improved transfer bar parts.
By the serial number given it is clearly a "New Model Blackhawk" so the above 2 post do not apply.
If you do buy it keep an eye on the ejector assembly working loose. It did on mine and fell off while shooting we found all the parts and I put it together with high strength locktight and has not loosened again. Now part of my pre shooting inspection. A few months ago a co-worker also has one of these and when he was showing it to me I discovered his ejector assembly was also loose.
I've got a Blackhawk 6in in this vintage that I purchased new. Shot it off and on through the years, but the last few have shot it several times a month. I woud buy another one in good condition if i could get it for $350. I love that thing! Enjoy
So i've took it out and shoot about 100 rounds through it and i'm in love. it handles great and i did check the ejector and the screw did loosen up so I will keep an eye on that and probably hit it with lock tight has well.
There are lots of different loctite products out there, ranging from ones just right for the application to ones that intended to be permanent (and those are darn difficult to remove!).
I use Guntite, and have never had a screw loosen on its own, yet they come out fine with a proper fitting acrewdriver.
I put a set of rubbr Hoague grips on mine that fit my larger hands better and it make it even better to shoot. I am able to get a better grip on the gun. It does change the appearance of the gun a lot, not better or worse just different. I bought mine from Ruger but you can probably get a better price elsewhere if interested.
