Ruger Bearcat .22: Your Thoughts?

Does anyone out there own a Ruger Bearcat? I've seen a few and been tempted, because they seem like neat little guns, but I'm not sure what I would do with a single-action .22 revolver. Is it good for anything besides plinking?
 
You mean ya have to have a use in mind before ya buy a handgun?!? Boy, am I in trouble...

The Bearcat is a great little pistol. Fun factor is very high.

Plinking, small game hunting, training new shooters, would all be likely uses.

I've never shot a single action revolver. Since the cylinder doesn't swing open like a DA revolver's, how do you make a SA revolver "safe"?

I ask because I'm thinking about buying a Bearcat for my wife as a Christmas present. She doesn't shoot but I think that having her own "cute" gun might help get her started. The problem is, I wouldn't know how to show her how to handle it!
 
Have the salesperson at the store demonstrate how to use it. It's definitely a fun little gun and my nephews go hog wild with it. They love it more than my SP101 in 22 LR. It's ideal for a kit gun (that and the S&W 8 shot 3" barrel 22).
 
The Bearcat will function with .22 Short and CB rounds just like a DA .22 revolver, right?

I bet it would make a dandy launcher for the primer-powered Aguila Colibri rounds.
 
A bearcat was the 1st pistol I ever owned. It was part of the original production lot and my grandfather bought it, used it for 20 years and gave it to me over 25 years ago. I still have it and my 10 year old son loves it. Does that tell you what you need to know?
 
I have the newer Bearcat and while the trigger is not as smooth as my Colt New Frontier, it's a fun little gun to pack in the woods. I'd consider the Bearcat over the Single Six in .22 any day.
 
I have a Single Six. Fun little gun. I used it for years as my hiking/camping/fishing gun. Good for snakes. The Bearcat is just a smaller version. Makes it even better! :)
