Ruger barrel

I am thinking about having an Ashley Big dot tritium installed on my SP101 and would much rather send just the barrel than the entire frame...How easy is it to remove and replace the barrel?....Any special tools or procedures necessary?

It's not easy, especially without the appropriate tools. You could very easily destroy the gun. Requires a fitted barrel vise & a receiver wrench to do it safely.

You should also insert a drill rod which closely fits the interior of the barrel into the barrel prior to removing it. This helps prevents the barrel from collasping.

I would most certainly NOT recomment taking the barrel off. Whenever I ship revolvers off to be ported or to have the sights replaced, I simply remove the grips (or grip in your case) and the cylinder. With the Ruger, yould also be taking out the trigger group. Send it UPS Ground. It's legal to a gunsmith and back.
