Ruger back orders

Does anyone know if Ruger is still backed up? I have heard they have suspended new orders for the rest of the year. Is that true? I'm looking an SP101 357 with a 3.06 barrel. Local gun shop says right now he can't get one but will keep trying.

“Despite the Company’s continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders. The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012.”

Is it the end of May yet?

.

I think they make a run of one gun, and then that's it for the time being. Timing is everthing.

I waited for Bud' to get a Ruger Redhawk 4" SS for some time, 6+months, oppp's, In the mean time, oppppp I found a Ruger (Not red but Blued) Redhawk LNIB 5.5" for $425.

A true blessing. Thank you,or no thank you Bud's or Ruger, Recyle.:D

PS: I already have a SP101 3+++"

Here ya go! The full article is a good read too.

Connecticut-based gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Co. on March 21 temporarily stopped taking new orders for guns because it couldn't keep up with demand. In the first quarter, the company received orders for 1.2 million firearms, more than it made in the entire year in 2011. The company said it expects to resume accepting new orders at the end of May.

What is Ruger's #1 selling handgun?

I'm guessing it's the LCP ???

Whatever it is - this surge in demand should allow them to do huge production runs.

To the OP, I was in the same boat about three weeks ago. For my first pistol, I wanted the exact SP101 you're looking for. I went through Gunbroker and the revolver is waiting for me at my FFL. Can't wait to finish this semester and pick it up! :D Good luck with your search. Keep checking classified sections of various forums, and keep an eye on Gunbroker. You can find one for about the same price as you could order one for.

It's just a thought on my part, but would it be unthinkable for Ruger to put out for public consumption a report that so many customers are ordering their product that they can't keep up with manufacturing for possible publicity? Whoever handles their advertising may just be a genius. Nah, they'd never do that, would they? The American people could never be taken in by a lie like that. It's not even possible!

Yeah, but I've never seen a company say that they can't keep up with production before and were not taking orders as well. Where's the logic in that? There have always been delays where certain models had the demand exceed their production and caused delays in putting them out.

I saw similar problems when I tried to buy my model 29 smith in the mid 70's. Dirty Harry was blamed, but that was only one model and S&W didn't feel the need to publicize it.

Usually a company doesn't want the reputation for not being able to fill orders. But this was like a major disruption to sales that was thrown out to the public like a bomb, which I'm suspicious about. A company with military contacts would not do that. Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't matter, cause I never owned a Ruger and don't get a piece of the action anyway.

I do not want to give out bad info that may effect business, but my dealer told me longer than May.There are Rugers in the pipeline and going to the distributors, but I have been told Ruger is not accepting new orders for a while.

That does not mean Rugers are unavailable,it does not mean production has stopped.Guns are being built and shipped.

Try a different distributor.

For an example i will use an industry I worked in. John Deere used to make Combines in the 60's-70's by ghe thousands. They assumed they could sell what ever they made. They had thousands sitting around after the season. Now days Combines are made to order from the dealer or farmer. From raw products to delivery it take 2 weeks.
Thus no overstock or money invested in parts. Business is JUST In Time now days as their main goal is to make a profit for their share holders.

I'm not sure about their guns, but I have been waiting for 2 months on a set of grips for my Blackhawk and a rail for my SR556E! Hope they get here soon.
