Ruger American Rifle 22WMR

Hi All

I have just sold my Remington 597. Thanks for your lack of help Remington.com:mad:. Ok, having sold it, I have placed an order on RAR. Are they a good rifle? Any feedback will be appreciated as it is not too late and change my mind. I use 22WMR on rabbits and wallabies, so my shooting will need to be spot on with a bolt action :). Thanks everyone

Good to see you managed to sell it. I'm guessing you are either from Rotorua or Oamaru/Timaru if you are going after wallabies.
I would have thought 17hmr would do just as well on wallabies, considering you will still have to place your shot well with the 22wmr. And I quite like 17hmr.

I believe the Rugers are very fine rifles, I don't own one but have a CZ in 17hmr and love it. I think the Rugers are considered as nice as the CZs are, and a million times better than the Marlin or Savage equivalent.

Wallabies

Hi, Im in Christchurch but travel down to Haka Valley to shoot wallabies. I carry the 22Wmr for small game and 223 for larger (or more distant game). I have LOTS of ammo in 22wmr so really need to stick with this calibre for a while.

I just bought a RAR in 17HMR and I hope it's anywhere close to being as good as the Savage 17 that I (never should have) sold.

I own a RAR 22wmr in the compact version. It is a dandy little rifle. Biggest problem is getting ammo for it.

I have read that many find this RAR 22 magnum to be very accurate. I have read that on a number of forums.

Mine i just got sighted in close with irons, then the ammo dried up. When the ammo comes back i will have to scope it and see how good it may be.

Mine shoots with in a minute of can.....
I don't do paper so that's all I can say.
I had mine cut and threaded and it still is MOC.

Lateck,

Mine is one of three American Compacts. It has proven to be just as accurate as the Marlin it replaced, but has a better magazine and trigger design (IMO). I added the long stock modules to mine as I like the 18" barrel, but the short stock did not feel comfortable for me (I'm 6'1").

I cannot wait for mine to arrive. Thanks everyone. I am off to USA next week so plan to stock up on mags and scopes.:)

I haven't shot my RAR (17HMR) yet, but I did the same thing. Got the Compact and added the standard stock. Hoping to try it out this coming week.

Are all three of yours 22WMR, or a variety?

Very nice.

I'm now thinking about a Marlin XT-22 for another .22 rifle. Seems I've got the rifle bug now. I haven't even shot the RAR 17 yet and I'm looking for another rifle.
