ruger american questions

ok my friend for about 2 years has been using my mosin to shoot, he decided finally to get a rifle, after a week of searching, our local big 5's are sold out of mosins as are the normal gun shops/smiths

depressing and weird as that was , we tested a variety of rifle, he finally decided on the ruger american.

id actually looked into this rifle, it won some awards and gun of the year i guess....

anyway the rifle is going to be in 30 06 , im wondering what i can be done as far as stock, or better parts there are out there, if not its still a good gun as it is.

if anyone knows a video on the bolt dis-assembly , trigger cleaning, parts cleaning i can refer to my friend.

my quick bio:
im a practical distance shooter since age 5 -23, distance 200-300 yrd zone , so i know rifle safety and handling, and have been teaching my friends to shoot, i own and have fired a variety of firearms since childhood

There is a better place for this in the Long Gun forums and I am sure it will be moved as soon as they catch on that this question is bolt gun specific.

Once it get's moved then the guys who really know about them will see it and you'll probably get some good answers.

Nothing in aftermarkets as far as I know.
The stock problem is that the triggerguard is a moulded part of it & the two bedding blocks are also moulded in.

I doubt you'll see many stockmakers interested.

Ruger doesn't want you to disassemble the bolt, that's why it's not shown in the manual.
Good luck there.

The .30-06 sample I worked with outshot a multi-thousand-dollar FBI sniper rifle I had here a while back. I wouldn't try to "improve" it.
It's an inexpensive rifle that shoots far better than you'd think with just a decent piece of glass on it.

My buddy also has the RA in 30-06 with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9. I can drop all 4 rounds inside of a 1" sticker at 100yds with his using box ammo. How much better do you need? Im no marksman either. Someone skilled may be able to do a little better with that rifle.

Few mods in my signature. More to come. I still need to get around to making the front of the stock stiffer.

I like the rifle, but the stock sucks. It shoots good off the bench, but simulate some real world shooting and the floppy stock begins to show. The magazine and the way it fits the stock is also something I would expect to see on a toy gun and not a real rifle. In my opinion, the metal parts are excellent quality and the plastic parts are junk. I have one, so I'm not hating on Ruger Americans. Just giving my observations.

i thout as much, i was aware of the rifles abilities, thats why im glad my buddy picked it up, as a new shooter i think it will definetly help him as it gives ample room to grow.

ive never shoot one but im familiar with the m1 garand (owned) which is same caliber so im not going to be surprised shooting it.

are there any safety tips or concerns i should pass onto him before we get a scope and start firing it?
