Hi guys,

I just have a question about a Ruger American 30-06 Im seeing for sale, and am wondering if this is as good a deal as it seems:

Description : I have a NIB Ruger American in 30-06. The fact sheet is here: Ruger American Rifle® Bolt-Action Rifle Model 6901This is an extremely well reviewed rifle.

Accessories: I will add 3 extra magazines (for a total of 4) and a new Redfield Revolution scope with rings (Amazon.com: Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm Accu-Range: Sports & Outdoors)

Selling Terms: FFL at Four Seasons or Shooters Warehouse

Price: 350 firm

Im going on a deer hunting trip in November and was looking to get a rifle for the trip.

So is this a good a deal as it seems? Thanks!

have you shot one?

the 30-06 hits you hard
i have one and don't really enjoy it that much
but that price is the going rate retail

I havent shot a 30-06 before, however I have shot the Mosin Nagant and the Steyr M95 with not a real problem.

Ya retail I could get one for 350 but i wasn't sure if I wanted this gun in 30-06 or .308.

Also I know nothing about optics(want to learn) so this would be my first rifle with a score. Is this a good scope, I know it sells alone for 250 on amazon.

Not a bad deal

The RA is a little lite for .30-06 to be comfortable, but felt recoil is subjective. For that price with a redfield scope thrown in, I would buy it.

Good deal...

I have shot the American in 30-06, and it hits harder than a traditional wood-stocked rifle, but that can be said for most polymer stocked guns due to less weight. It was pretty accurate producing about 1.5" groups at 200 yards using factory ammo.

If you want a 30-06 and are not recoil adverse, I'd say that deal is hard to pass up. $350 is about what they go for new, plus you get the scope which is not a high end scope but it should certainly work for your purposes. The mags is kind of a toss in, I mean how often will you need to quickly swap out mags in a bolt gun meant for deer hunting?

If it fits your needs and wants, I would be all over it.

With the scope and rings, that's a pretty good deal. The Ruger American is going for about that, but the scope adds value to the package. It's not a screaming deal, but it's certainly a nice deal.

And the Ruger American is rated very favorably. If I didn't have a .30-06, I'd be tempted. And pay no attention to those who talk about the recoil of the .30-06. That can be mitigated very easily, either with recoil pads or ammunition. Lots of folks use a .30-06 to bring home their venison each year.

Thanks for the insight guys! Im probably just gonna get it. I mean Im not in danger of losing any money so if Im not happy with it or just want to sell I could make my money back.

And im thinking I can sell two of the magazines for 25 a pop and bring down the cost by 50 bucks

I chose the an American in .308 over .30-06 for a couple reasons:

1. I have several other .308's I can share ammo with
2. .308 kicks less than the .30-06, and the American is a light rifle
3. The American seems to like the 165gr and under bullets best, therefore negating the 30-06's slim advantage

For that price, nab it. I dont know what extra mags cost, but with the scope its a good buy. I really like my American rifle, and would love one in .243.

I think it is a hell of a deal with a decent scope, rings, and 3 extra mags. The '06 is not a plinking round anyway- once you get it sighted in you will just shoot it occasionally on a hunt so recoil won't be an issue. Buy it- I really like my 22-250-a great bang for the buck so to speak!

Sounds good! just emailed the gentleman saying ill buy it. If the 30-06 sucks to shoot to much ill just try to work a trade for a 308 version

Ya he just said he bought it put it in is safe, and just always uses his shotgun. says it was never fired. and all the accessories are still in there original boxes

No complaints about the one I have in 30-06. Doesn't seem to kick any different than other 30-06 rifles I've shot. Technically, if it is lighter, there may be some sort of difference in kick, but it doesn't register much with me.
As described, the deal sounds pretty good if everything works well.
