Ruger Alaskan

It's near impossible to find one here in Alaska. I finally found a slightly used one in a gunshop in Vermont thanks to a member of one of the forums I belong to. He emailed me and gave me the name and phone number of the shop where he had recently traded the gun in. I haven't been able to shoot mine much yet but so far I love this gun.

I would like to get one in .480 Ruger. I think the caliber would be a lot of fun to reload for. Gets me one step closer to .50 caliber!

When they were introduced, my gut reaction (impulse) was... great. I want one. I think I'll wait for a 4" version as for me the shorter barrel gains me nothing.

Handled one here in northern California when the owner picked it up. I want Marlin to chamber a 336 in .454. Since I am trying to get stationed in Alaska I think I need to buy one just in case!

Thats got to be the most heavy-duty'est piece i've ever seen. I was watching Amer. Rifleman on TV the other day and a guy was demonstrating one on there, first he shot the .45 long colt (or whatever) and it was ok but then he slapped a .454 in it and man what a blast. That gun must have went straight up in the air at least a foot. But its a good bear stopper im sure. I doubt that there is a living creature that walks on this earth that could stand but a couple or few of those rds.

My shop had one in .480, I held it and I was impressed. It's kinda funky looking with a snubby barrel on it and the full size grip.

Not sure what was said previous cause I didn't read the whole post, but I was always under the impression that a 480 will 'push' and a 454 'snaps' in regards to recoil.

Although with a snubby in either calibre it's going to be a little painful. The other thing I held was a PD model Smith in 44 magnum with the scandium and titanium workings. Light, but I wouldn't want to fire a magnum cartridge out of it.
