Ruger Alaskan Carry Thread

I've been carrying my Ruger Alaskan. I use a Comp-Tac kydex reinforced belt (1 1/2" wide) and a kydex appendix carry holster that I made. The holster is convertible to strong side use.

It hides well except for the long rubber grip. I'm working on getting some Secret Service Stocks from Eagle Grips for it. The cylinder's diameter isn't really an issue.

The ammunition is 44 Magnum Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 200 grain JHP. Advertised velocity is around 1075 FPS (at muzzle), but from a 4" barrel. It drops to 994 FPS at 50 yards. This load throws around 513 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle (Speer GD SB in 45 ACP does 343 FP, while 357 Magnum does 294 FP). I use two Bianchi speed strips in custom holders that I made to protect the bullet tips.

How do you carry your Ruger Alaskan?

I would love to have mine in the truck on occasion. But it would be illegal to have loaded under Oklahoma law. Totally stupid. I can have a loaded AK pistol up there with a hundred extra 30 round mags but a six shot revolver is illegal because it is "over .45 caliber."

Yeah, mine is a .480.

Nice carry setup you have there! I'd love to have an Alaska, I've never even seen one in the stores. Mine would have to be 454, part of the reason is that sexy smoothe cylinder!

That over .45 law is crazy. I've had my 500 tag along in my car when I didnt have ammo for anything else! I live in Missouri though.

My Alaskan only rides outside on my belt in a custom holster, for woods use... my CCW duties are better covered with my custom snubbie Montado in 45 Colt... it's quite a bit lighter to carry... I could carry my Alaskan concieled, with a jacket, as my holster is a canted higher riding piece... mostly I prefer 4:00 carry position

Hogue nylon grip.

Try the HOGUE Monogrip in NYLON.
It's the same size as the rubber grip, but won't grab your clothing; plus, you can 'work' the material to suit your needs.
I had one on a S&W Model 64 NY-1 that I used when I drove armored car...it was a good choice!
Since I have a GP-100 and am getting an ALASKAN in .44, I will be purchasing the nylon grip.
Waiting on my Mernickle holster at the moment...couple more weeks and it should be here. Crossdraw for me.

My .44M Alaskan carries well in my Simply Rugged 'pancake'.

Same here, but I also got the inside the pants straps for that holster which prints less than traditional belt carry. That and two split six speed loader pouches and I'm ready to go. Smithy.
