does anyone know where to get a Ruger Alaskan? I'm thinking Ruger is feeling out the market before they make any........s.o.p. for Ruger.
Accuracy was very good with the Alaskan. I could keep six rounds inside of two inches at twenty-five yards, resting my wrists over a rail. The short sight radius made it harder to hit than with a longer barrel, but with the Mt. Baldy bullets loaded over Trail Boss, I could get the gun to group into one and three-quarters inches at twenty-five yards.
The recoil will probably kill me, but I'll die happy!!! Gotta have one!But it's not for me.
Well said!!! If Ruger had a SRH in 4" .45apc I would have purchased at least one, and would not be as interested in the Alaskan.....I have never understood why my and I am sure other people's requests to Ruger to make a 4" - 6" SRH were refused and now suddenly they make a snubbie. Good grief!
Ruger are you finally listening?
Jeff Quinn's review of the Alaskan was rather interesting. Check out the first few photos of him in mid-recoil. Quinn is a seasoned big-bore shooter, a large, strong-looking guy who used to work construction. Look at that 90-degree muzzle flip! He can't even keep both hands on the gun! Doesn't seem to have hurt his accuracy, though.
A little tid bit on the Alaskan from the Shooting Times...Here's the link to the whole review...Of course, by preventing rotation, the hump-shouldered grip design also keeps the Super Redhawk’s muzzle flip to around 35 to 45 degrees, depending on the load and how tight the shooter locks down on the gun. But that flip is abrupt and forceful and transmits a vertical wrenching to the shooter’s grasp at exactly the same instant the carpal bones in the shooter’s wrist are experiencing the maximum compression impact of the DA grip’s straight-back recoil.
thank you guys for your input; my thoughts on the subject were thinking I could carry it concealed with HOT 45 colt loads; maybe I'll look for a smith mdl 29 snubby and load it with 185 grainers, until ruger sends some to Idaho.
