Ruger Alakans

does anyone know where to get a Ruger Alaskan? I'm thinking Ruger is feeling out the market before they make any........s.o.p. for Ruger.

Gator guns in Kenai Alaska had a couple last time I looked...first 100 went to a Wholesaler in Anchorage.

No luck finding one here in Kentucky yet.

Jeff Quinn has a review of the 454 Alaskan at http://www.gunblast.com/

Accuracy was very good with the Alaskan. I could keep six rounds inside of two inches at twenty-five yards, resting my wrists over a rail. The short sight radius made it harder to hit than with a longer barrel, but with the Mt. Baldy bullets loaded over Trail Boss, I could get the gun to group into one and three-quarters inches at twenty-five yards.

As if I didn't want one bad enough already, now I'm dying over here...

My buddy just got back from Ruger Armorys school, he got to handle one,,, said Ruger is cranking them out but is no where near filling all the orders. They are still allocated, wait a year and there will be all kinds of shot a few times Alaskan,s for sale. :)

Jeff Quinn's review of the Alaskan was rather interesting. Check out the first few photos of him in mid-recoil. Quinn is a seasoned big-bore shooter, a large, strong-looking guy who used to work construction. Look at that 90-degree muzzle flip! He can't even keep both hands on the gun! Doesn't seem to have hurt his accuracy, though.

Man, I bet that thing's a mule with .454.

I like the concept and look. I like the fact that Ruger is willing to make a relatively offbeat revolver like a super big-bore snubby for bear country.

But it's not for me.

The .45/.454 sounds like it might be perfect with warm .45 loads in it.

Now for a question you don't hear often. How mild could the .480 be loaded?
I'm becoming very interested in BIG bullets from carry weapons. If the .480, or .500 S&W special even, could be tamed to not kill on both ends.... Big hole, 14 - 18 inches of penetration, it could just work......

Let ya know what I come up with when I can get one of these guns.

Why not get one of Wild West Guns cut-down SRH instead.

The Alaskan would be a better gun with a 4'' barrel instead of 2.5". It would be just as easy to carry, not much heavier, easier to be accurate with, and if converted to use moon-clips could use .45ACP for self-defense when .454 is not necessary. Talk about versatility! Wild West can provide you all this. I have never understood why my and I am sure other people's requests to Ruger to make a 4" - 6" SRH were refused and now suddenly they make a snubbie. Good grief!

Ruger are you finally listening?

"In a world devoid of semiautomatics, a properly set-up Webley is the ultimate full-size self-defense handgun."

the redhawk would be a better gun for the 4" version. I had gator guns in Kenai buzz down my .44 SRH, and I like it alot better now, but would have gone with a redhawk if I had known better at the time.

Like I said before the first 100 guns are here in AK....If I had known better I'd have scalped a couple and sold them for bank on gunbroker..:)..

Well said!!! If Ruger had a SRH in 4" .45apc I would have purchased at least one, and would not be as interested in the Alaskan.....

I with you guys.

If Ruger would only make a 6 shot double aciton .45 ACP revolver, I'd be in heaven. A 4 to 6 inch barrel and make it look like the GP-100 series, please. The RH or SRH would do in a pinch, but I think the GP's just looks better.

Ruger tough and .45+p ACP would go together so well. I"ll take the Alaskan if it's all I can get, but would love a 4" acp. Please Ruger, pretty please.....

ruger redhawk alaskan

thank you guys for your input; my thoughts on the subject were thinking I could carry it concealed with HOT 45 colt loads; maybe I'll look for a smith mdl 29 snubby and load it with 185 grainers, until ruger sends some to Idaho.

I'll bet that Mr. Quinn was trying shoot the SRH ALASKAN as if it HAD a muzzle, and was holding it like a 'hogleg' expecting it to roll in his hand... :D
What he got was a limp-wristed HOGUE HANDSHAKE!

Let that be a lesson to you guys about to recieve your new Rugers. ;)
Looks like you'll have to MAKE it shoot!
Have fun with 'em.

Of course, by preventing rotation, the hump-shouldered grip design also keeps the Super Redhawk’s muzzle flip to around 35 to 45 degrees, depending on the load and how tight the shooter locks down on the gun. But that flip is abrupt and forceful and transmits a vertical wrenching to the shooter’s grasp at exactly the same instant the carpal bones in the shooter’s wrist are experiencing the maximum compression impact of the DA grip’s straight-back recoil.
A little tid bit on the Alaskan from the Shooting Times...Here's the link to the whole review...

Maybe I'll change my mind!!! Nah... ;)

Not sure where you are in Idaho - but Husky Gun Shop in Moscow had one last week.

Comparable to a 357 S&W Scandium Snubby?

Good Lord what a mule of a gun!!! Coolest thing I have ever seen. Have any of you fired one, and if so how do you think it compares to the Scandium S&W snubbies in 357? I didn't think anything would beat on me as bad as those, but by the looks of it, this gun is the end all of all "my handgun kicks harder than your handgun bets".

I have to get one just for the looks of it. Imagine telling your buddies about your new Ruger Snubby and getting sleepy yawns, then pulling this bad boy out of your back pocket. :D

This gun is heavy, at 41oz it's almost to heavy to carry. My LGS says that they will sell them for $518 so I will be buying one for carry plus this is just a mean looking gun.

I just got back from Target World a gun store here in Cincinnati, Ohio and They said that they expect to have the Alaskan in by December. I put my name on the waiting list I will be Numero Uno to buy one when they get them in.
