Ruger 89dc question

I just picked up this used ruger p89 with ambidextrious decocking levers. I noticed the decocker on the right is loose and has some play and was wondering if anyone knew how to tighten it up. Everything else is perfect with it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Welcome ruger89. I would take it to a competent gunsmith. I have a couple of rugers, one of which is a P89DC stainless, and none of them have any play in the decockers or safeties. I am assuming you mean the lever is actually loose side to side, not the normal play in it's stroke.

The axle that the two levers pivot on is not one piece. That means that there is a certain amount of independent movement possible.

My left lever is tight and won't move at all without starting the decocking stroke. The right lever won't wiggle side to side, but has a little bit of play.

If I hold the left lever with my thumb so it won't move, the right lever can be wiggled up and down maybe 1-2 mm (something like a sixteenth of an inch or less).

If it wiggles a lot more than that, you might want to have it looked at.

Good shooting,

John

Thanks for the info, Its probably about the same play-wise.(side to side) Im not too worried about it. I really like the feel of the gun and minimal recoil. Since its similar to the P85 there are some goodies you can get for it that make it a good Home defense gun.
