Ruger 77 - Is this a good deal?

I stopped in at a local firearms shop just to look around and found a consignment rifle that appeared to be good value. Let me start by saying its a Ruger. I don't know anything about Rugers.

Anyway its a Model 77 in 30-06. It has a tang saftey and iron sights. The rear sight is a folding express style. Overall condition is 98% on the wood and 99% on the metal. The rifle comes with a 2.5 X 8 Leupold mounted on see thru rings. Price is $549.

This seemed like a great price to me. Is it? Why do I see so little written about Ruger bolt action rifles? Is this model known to be dependable and accurate?

I don't need another 30-06 but my brother in law needs a deer rifle and I thought I would recommend this to him. What do you think?

Wifal.

This is not a super bargain, but if you sit down and look at it you are saving bucks a Ruger 30-06 with 2x8 by leupold is nice check ballistics. on 30-06 nok down deer, bear, and if you handload you can varmit load, down to 125gr. Just a Busybodys opinion :p hotdog

tang safety = model I

it has a tuneable trigger unlike the model II

its a good rifle

mine is very stable

I had one in .270 and wasnt pleased...

i sold a model 77 in .270, also in brand new condition w/ a 3x9 50 mm leupold scope on it... i thought the accuracy was not nearly what i was looking for. I hated making shots too long w/ it b/c i did not trust the accuracy. But i consider myself a perfectionist :)

Whether or not that is a good "deal", I don't know. I've owned two M77s, an M77V in .25-06 and an M77 in .280 (which I still own). Both were handsome rifles, extremely accurate and reliable.

I'd buy another.
