I just purchased a Ruger 77/44. This little rifle shoots great, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to get the bolt to work a little smoother. It seems very stiff and hard to cycle! Help-Any Ideas !!

step one........empty/unload rifle......step two....repete step one....step three....set up cold drink of choice.....select program on tv to watch.....step four....cycle bolt action continuely while watching long program....lube lightly...repete step four.....continue till action smooth....

I would suggest a good cleaning too. New guns have all kinds of machine crud in them that makes the action stiff.

I've had my 77/44 for several years and the bolt gets smoother with use and a little polishing. The trigger never did and I had a trigger job done on it. What a difference. Nice little deer carbines.

I don't own a 77/44, but a 77MKII and a 77/22, both stainless, exhibited the same issue, notchy bolt work, very much so when new.

Much repeated cycling, and in the case of the 77/22, a good bit of shooting, has smoothed both out considerably. Neither are what I would call slick, but they are better.

Lube and take the Roashooter advice.

Mine required some fairly stout loads in the beginning to cycle properly and "break in". It now runs smoothly. I tend to run on the lean side of lubrication, which doesn't seem to be a problem now.
