My friend has an 45 Ruger Blackhawk with 2 cylinders,,, one for long and one for short 45. This gun has never been shot and has the box it came in. Does anyone know the value.. I would like to purchase it but a little green on what to pay for it. also, has ivory grips with thw original set .

Sounds like a convertible with a .45 Colt and a .45acp cylinder. New in box, I might go a little over $300 if I was really wanting a single-action. You'll find price will vary widely according to where you are. If you strike a deal that satisfies both of you, then it's a fair price.

For a guideline, you could go to Gunbroker.com and search for "blackhawk" in the revolvers section. Look at the "buy it now" prices.

Here's one Gunbroker .45

I paid $305 for this new Blackhawk .45 convertable, before I Bisley-ized it.

300 would be a GREAT price

I was thinking more in the 4-450 range... keep in mind if you ordered/bought it on line (across state lines) you are going to usually have to pay shipping...then pay the FFL dealer it's shipped to to fill out the forms and ontop of all this is the hassel of getting the 'cash' to the seller, the worry about if they are ripping you a new one, then the time to go and pick it up.

I have bought a number of guns this way...both at gun shows and 'on the street'. I've never thought I was buying a stolen gun or buying from a criminal...in fact in most of these types of transactions there is an informal back ground check between the two parties... who are you? where do you shoot... ect. I've even had a guy ask me to fill out a form/bill of sale and put my drivers liscence and CWP number on it.

I think the ability to pay in cash, look him in the eye, shake his hand and walk off with the gun you want...is worth a hundred dollars.

but that may just be me....

also, has ivory grips with thw original set .
Real ivory or simulated?

Makes a huge difference.

Real ivory grips go for $350.00 or more.
Simulated ones go for $30.00 to $50.00.

If he's a "friend" like you posted, you probably wouldn't want to insult him by offering him too little for the gun/grip combination.

I would start by asking him what he wants for the gun. If it's outrageously high, just politely decline. If it's way too low, you can always offer more so as to not take advantage of a friend. A good friend is worth more than a good deal any day.

Ruger

This is just my opinion. I would get a stainless steel (easier to care for) Blackhawk in 357 mag, which will shoot 38 specials without changing cylinders. I guess I have never been a fan of blued guns. Also I would get a set of Wolff Springs for the trigger and hammer, it will really make a difference.
