Ruger .32 single-six

The other day I was in my local gun shop and spotted a new stainless Ruger .32 single-six with those (fake) ivory grips.

I have no business even thinking of another gun right now but this one was calling my name.

Anyone own one and how do you like it?

Squid, you mean one like this?

I love the gun. But, in my opinion, it is a reloader's caliber. If you don't load your own, the stuff gets expensive and choice is limited.

These Ruger .32 mag "baby vaqueros" are real nice.

Beautiful gun. Shoots well and goes perfect with my ,45lc vaquero. real happy. Go get it, nothing to be sorry about.
Good Shootin

I don't have the .32 Ruger, however the .32 H&R mag is a sweet shooting round with enough gee-whiz from the muzzle to be satisfying. Great little cartridge for smaller varmints around the farm/ranch/campsite.

Most guns will also shoot the .32 S&W Long cartridge too. But don't expect saving too much on the .32 Long; these are still fairly pricey for a light round.

Reloading will save you $$ and the brass will probably last quite a while too.

That looks like it only it was real shiny - come to think of it maybe it was Nickle plated?

Hmmm, a reloading caliber? Good thought....that's why I posted the question. I don't even recall if it was .32 mag now  I guess I was so taken back by the guns good looks I didn't even read the desc. very closely!

Squid, they are .32 H&R Magnum, and they come in color case non-hardened blue (like the photo) and stainless steel (like my 2nd one I bought used), not nickel. Both have the fake ivory plastic grip panels.

You don't have to reload, but there are only two Federal rounds, and some ammo from "boutique" ammo makers (Georgia Arms, for example).

But if you reload, you can do all kinds of cusom stuff. When I finally get the Marlin .32H&R Magnum model 1894 lever rifle I ordered, then I wil be on .32 hog heaven, reloadingwise & shootingwise.

OK it was stainless then. I just sold my reloader ("square deal") on ebay :(

But that probably wouldn't be the reloader I'd want for that caliber anyway....well, if I get up the bucks I want to look at that gun again!

Hey, I noticed your avatar "deep in Red Sox nation"....cool! I live in CT and am a huge Sox fan!!!

32 H&R Mag.... hummmm? I have yet to figure out why anyone would even want one unless you just have lots of guns and it is something different. What is it good for? Shootin rats, rabbits and squirrels.... why bother? Use a 22LR or if you want more power, use a 22 mag. You can always get the 17 Rem in a Ruger.

I got 1 for my wife for Christmas. Now I have to keep her in ammo for it. Problem is I haven't found a good accurate load for it. The cylinder throats are .310 and the barrel is .312. This seems a bit backwards and is probably the reason I haven't found a good load yet. I'm about ready to stop reloading and look for a tool over at Brownells that will open the throats safely.

I did try some 32 ACP factory in it and all rounds went bang. POI was only about 1" lower at 50ft. WW FMJ loads were week and felt like a 22. Geco and WW silvertips were the best and grouped about like my reloads.

As someone in another thread said, this gun will fire 32acp, 32 S&W, 32 long, & 32 Mag.

Just a quick tip for the .32 shooters...

I've got an NEF snubby chambered in .32 H&R and it's fun to shoot. I carry it quite a bit as a BUG. I've been practicing with Magtech's .32 S&W Long SJHP. It's a good round and pretty inexpensive at about 10 bucks a box of 50. Easier than reloading this round for me...

Longspurr's idea is actually a good one. A friend of mine has one and when he showed it ot me it was loaded with .32 ACP. I asked around and the general consensus was that it wasn't optimal, but it wasn't dangerous either.

I ended up giving him some FMJ and CorBons that I had left over. It's now his gf's home defense weapon.

Dpris, where did you get the idea "Ruger isn't making them anymore"? All the store reps I've talked to say they are very much so, that orders are picking up and the website shows no fewer than 6 variants available? It is a pity (crime!) the industry hasn't supported the round more to date but popularity finally seems picking up. www.midwayusa.com is showing 5 ammo choices, not a lot but up greatly from just a few years ago. Great gun and round! As someone said here or elsewhere in the forums, just enough oomph to let you know you're firing something potent, but not enough to punish the shooter for having fun. Can shoot these all day long (the $$ notwithstanding) even versus a .38--against which it is most often compared (non +P). The Win 92 lever action is finally represented in this round with Armi Sports (through Taylor's Firearms), following Marlin's lead from a year or two ago -- about time! Maybe Rossi (92) will now follow suit? Dpris, it is true that the 32 Mag's second life (the first "starting" (at least with Ruger) with the adjustable sight single six in 1984 but dying a few years later) was a bit slow in starting--again not aided by a mysterious lack of interest in the industry (magazines, etc., barely noticed let alone supported). It really is the perfect "tweener" in the huge revolver-round gap between 22/22 mag and .38. Now if CCI will also make some shot for it!

GAK,
As I've said before here, you can't go by the website, it's not up to date & shows other guns such as the regular Vaqueros and Bisley Vaqueros that are also out of production.
There are no .32 single-actions in the 2005 Ruger catalog, and it's more current than the website. Some of what you see on the site reflects models still in stock, but no longer made.

longspurr-Was wondering why my newly purchased fixed sight 32 vaquero just wasn't up to the accuracy of 1980's model with lead. Checked the cylinder throats, and they are smaller than bore dia. On the 1980's model, the cylinder throats are larger than the bore dia, and is extremely accurate with jacketed and lead.

Even so, the vaquero is very accurate with Hornady's 85 xtp using Sierra's accuracy load for their 90 jhp. If ya find someone or tool designed to open throats, would ya please post info?

Much prefer a long barreled single six in 32 mag over 22 or 22 mag. Same size, but can go from light lead loads to Speer's 100 gn jhp at standard 45 acp energy level (using max listed loads of Lil-gun). This comes at greater expense than 22 lr or 22 mag, however.

Anyone own one and how do you like it?

I had one. I liked it. I wound up selling it to a friend, and we're still speaking, so it must be a pretty good gun, no? :)

I like the caliber, too. In addition to the Single Six, I've owned a Taurus 731UL in .32 Mag, and currently use a S&W 432PD as my BUG.

Dpris, my apologies. You appear to be correct. If it's not a massive typo-exclusion in their catalog, it's a real shame. (Sad to say, typically Ruger--also typically Ruger in not keeping their website up to date). Great gun, great round. Nothing quite like it. And even Armi Sports (Taylor's Firearms) has joined Marlin in the lever gun world by recently offering the 32 Mag in their Win 92 replica.

It's not a massive typo. When I was talking to Ruger about the New Vaqs back in December, they had five proof catalogs they were checking for errors, that was no error.
The website confuses a lot of people, it just doesn't reflect what's currently in production.
There are still some .32s in the pipeline, but I was advising that if anybody is planning to pick one up in a year or two it might be a good idea to grab whatever shows up now.
