Ruger .22 pistol advice

Hi everyone,

Need some advice again. Looking to buy a .22 semi pistol for target practice. How is the
KMK-512c model? It is stainless steel with 5.5 in barrel and adj. sights. Thanks in advance. :)

I have the Ruger Mark 11 bull barrel.
Thousands of rounds and very accurate.
It does want (only) ruger magazines.
But that is not a problem.

Wonderful.

If you're serious into bulls eye or silhouette, then you'll probably want a trigger job.

Post liability Ruger triggers are best described as "journeyman".

Otherwise - for the price plus several hundred dollars - you'd have a devil of a time beating it.

All the Ruger Mark IIs have a good reputation, although they are finicky with some brands of ammo.
Mine is a MK-6 with a standard tapered barrel. I love it. It feels good, shoots good and to me, looks good. It is a fun gun for plinking.
I think the MK-512 has the heavier bull barrel which may be better for target shooting.
I don't think you can go wrong with this gun.
Hope you enjoy it.

I have the ruger 22/45...great gun, no complaints. seems more refined than the MK models. Give it a look. But if you plan on buying a scope for it get it pre drilled because by the time u get the scope mounted you could have had it pre drilled.

Good luck.

Tim :)

I love my Ruger MkII s/s slabside, 6 7/8" barrel. A little on the heavy side, but comes predrilled, with scope mount and rings included. Very accurate. Trigger isn't great, but OK for non-competition shooting, IMHO. I got a Tasco 2X scope for it for $70-80.

The 22/45 has the same grip angle and controls as a 1911, for point shooting practice.

I just got a 22/45, like the accuaracy and feel. In practice sessions I shoot it before the 45. What holster do you use? Also, what is your cleaning procedure? How often?
I sometimes get jams after a only hundred rounds.

My wife and I have the slabside government model. It's a great gun, reliable as all get out and very accurate. I just installed a trigger kit from Volquartson. It made a big difference and was easy to install.

I presently own the Ruger MK-II KMK-512, myself. :) What a rimfire!!! :D One of the
most accurate .22LR semi-auto's I have
ever shot. And that list includes
an older model Colt Match Target Woodsman.
Go figure, maybe I just got a good one?

1) Holster? I'd love to find a holser that would accomodate my 22/45 with weigan dovetail mount and simmons red dot scope. That thing is not only big and awkward but its heavy as all hell too. Dont get me wrong, its very well balanced and a great shooter, just not made for holster wear. If anyone knows of a manufacturer of holsters for 22/45's with scopes please let me know.

2)Cleaning? yeah, its a pain. But its got to be done. I basically pull the slide pin, seperate the frame from the barrel and blast the s*%t out of it with brake clean. run a brush and swab through the barrel, oil it and slap it back together. I do this after every range session.

3) jams after 100 rounds? Thats not good. I use the el-cheapo blazer ammo to practice with (cruddy dirty filty crap)and i can get through 300 or more rounds before a jam.

I love that gun. I hate that its so ugly. and i hate that its so hard to take apart. but its all worth it in the end.

It was reported on a previous thread, and I have verified, that over-lubrication can cause jamming in these pistols. Also as others have noted, better function is obtained when the magazines are tilted on their backs and tension is momentarily relieved from the magazine follower after loading. This points all the cartridges "up."

Also, keep track of which magazine you are using when the jamming occurs; check the magazine lips to ensure that they allow the round to feed easily.
