Ruger 22/45 - which barrel, which finish?

For some reason I've been considering getting a Ruger 22/45, since it's going to take me a month of Sundays to find a Kel-Tec P32. A local dealer has one blued with a 5.5" bull barrel for 250$. Another dealer about 25 miles away has 2 stainless ones with regular barrels for 239$. Which one do you guys think I'd be better off with?

I kind of like the looks of the regular barrel, it reminds me of a modern day Luger. I also prefer the stainless finish. But if the bull barrel makes a big difference in accuracy, and if there's nothing wrong with the blued finish, I might opt for the other one. For me, "beautiful is as beautiful does". Heck, I own a Glock so that goes with the territory. :-)

Then again, they have a Glock 26 I might put on layaway...

Hey Big Al

I have the stainless 5 1/2 bull barrel on my 22/45. I outshoot my brother with his "luger" style mkII. We are both pretty good marksmen, I think its just that the heavier bull barrel is steadier in my hand.
If you have to have stainless go for the regular barrel, but if you want a bit more precision go for the blued bull barrel.
My brother is actually looking for a blued bull barrel.(He's crazy for not liking the stainless)
Best of luck.

I have the 5 bull bbl in stainless. The arm is so accurate it is almost boring. The grip is so similar to my 1911 that it may have actually helped my scores when shooting that 45. My wife used the 22/45 for her carry course certification. She perfed the center mass of a life size target too well and made a couple of obligatory shots to the crotch as well. It took me a while to figure out the reassembly trick, but eventually, no big deal.

Hey Al,

I've seen the bull barreled 22/45 on GB for $207 shipped to your FFL. $250 + sales tax is just too much to pay for them. I like my local dealer, buy I'm not gonna give him an extra 25% just cause he's friendly.

I have a 5.5" bull barrel in stainless. I think the barrel balances well, and the stainless top end makes clean up a snap. Don't have to worry about messing up that fragile blue.

It does sound like your dealer is a little high on his price for the blue model.

I used to have the standard profile barrel in stainless, but traded it for a bull barrel version as soon as I could. The lighter barrel just doesn't seem to feel right.

Have put more ammo through my 22/45 with bull barrel than any other gun, ever! I love shooting it. I have 12 magazines for mine. Just load'em all up and take off shooting. Mine is the blued finish, but only because I bought it when I didn't have much money. I would much rather have the stainless. It is a much prettier gun. Check out a friends Ruger 22/45 site. http://network54.com/Hide/Forum/52578 It has lots of Q&A plus posts. --plinker2--

Hi all. I owned a stainless 22/45 w/ bull bbl. for a number of years, loved it, and wish now I hadn't traded it. I vote for the bull bbl. blue gun over the reg. bbl. stainless. On the subject of keeping stainless clean - no problem at all. I now have a Kimber Stainless Gold Match w/ the mirror polished flats. It sure gets dirty fast but wipes clean with no effort. If you really want stainless to clean easily and sparkle, try spraying it with Sheath before you put it away. John

This store has two P32s...one in blue ($229), one with a chromed slide ($244). Very reputable place.

Oleg, I live in WV - what's the best way of going about transferring this pistol to a local dealer? One guy here said he'd only charge me 5$ to run it through. The chromed slide model has my attention.

I'd say have the dealers exchange signed copies of their licenses and go from there. Call Howard at Gunsto pfirst to make sure he still has the gun and give him the address of your dealer. $5 is a bargain. Howard charged me $20 and every other dealer in town $40 per gun!
