Ruger 22/45, or Ciener 22LR Glock conversion?

I was seriously considering buying a 22/45, but then I got to thinking (uh-oh). Instead of buying another gun, why not just by the conversion for my Glock 19? I'd end up with a big, bulky 22 regardless and it would be good practice to boot.

How much do the conversions run?

I've got both and enjoy them very much. However, my Ciener unit is on a 1911 frame.

If I could have only one, I would probably keep the 22/45 and live without the conversion unit.

I bought the 22/45 as opposed to a conversion kit. It's much more convenient to not switch top ends all the time.

I too debated a while back with the exact same gun (22/45) or the Ciener unit. I decided to go with the Ruger 22/45, as I could easily switch back and forth at the range without the hassle of switching slides (messy), and I think I probably get better accuracy out of the 22/45 than I could with the conv unit. Price on the 22/45 was cheaper. (~$40 if memory serves). Good luck.

This has always been pretty much of a "no-brainer" for me, whenever the choice is between converting a gun back and forth or buying a new gun, I'm on the new gun like lightning.

I own the 22/45.Its a great gun.Seems that it would be easier to own another gun made for that caliber. That way at the range you can fire both without a big hassle. The Ruger works for me.I can set the Mrs. up to punch some paper with the .22 and go shoot the steel with my bigger guns. SHOKz

Big Al, I like the idea of 22 conversions for centerfire pistols. It has the same sort of appeal to me as a Swiss Army Knife; one basic tool that can do different tasks. I have to go with the flow of posts on the 22/45 though. I have had a 22/45 stainless 5" bull barrel for at least 6 years and I love it. The grip is so much like my 1911s that I am sure it has helped me overcome flinching and get closer to that pesky center when firing 45ACP. I imagine the conversion unit is a fine product, but I doubt it can match the performance of the 22/45 designed specifically for 22lr. This Ruger takes a little while to acclimate to reassembly, but once you cut your teeth, no big deal.
