Ruger 101 barrel length?

On a 101 .357.....what is main if any difference between
the 2 1/4" and 3 1/16" barrels? For CCW. More accurate?
More difficult to carry? thanks

The longer barrel isn't that much harder to tote (the SP-101 is hardly a pocket pistol anyway) and has a full-length ejector rod stroke, as well as a slightly longer sight radius.

The longer barrel also gains back some of that velocity that snubbies are known to steal. On the flip side, the longer barrel adds just a tad more weight ( actually good for recoil absorbtion) and it's just a little harder /less comfortable to conceal. ( Of course the latter depends on how you intend to carry it.)

Best carry method for 101?

What would be the best carry method for a 101 with either barrel?
I am 6'3" tall at 225 lbs. I wear coats of different types quite a bit.
Some have large inner cargo pockets too.

SP 101 bbl Length

I have the 3 "+ version myself and love it! Its my most versatile carry piece.
I have carried it in some shorts with large pockets, IWB and inside a jacket inner pocket. Good range gun as well - always makes a trip with out to the range.

I think you have enough holster selection - check out:

* DeSantis Holsters
* Safariland holsters online ( I have a nylon IWB holster that is very versatile
* Brigade Gunleather

I had the three inch version. I liked the gun, but I wasn't very accurate with it. I didn't like the barrel underlug, I wish they would get rid of it on the GP and especially on the SP, it makes the gun heavier than it needs to be.

Yea, it helps to dampen recoil a bit, but tieing on a lead bar has the same effect.

At 6'5" 225lbs. The 3" SP is my main carry piece. I carry it in the smartcarry holster. I've also bobbed the hammer and added CT laser grips. Its a great carry gun. :cool:

Well, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree regarding barrel length. I have the 2.25" version. I do carry it in the front pocket of my pants (jeans, dockers, etc). Yes it is a tad heavy, but definately not too heavy. I also carry it in three different IWB holsters. I don't feel the longer barrel would be an asset in my situation. I'm not going to get into a debate here, just think very carefully about your situation and what would best meet the requirement of keeping you and yours alive.

My wife's carry gun is a DAO (bobbed hammer) SP-101 with the stubby barrell. That's what she wanted. Personally, I like the 3" (or so) barrell on ALL snubbies. Oddball, I guess: 3" snubbies, 5" large bores! I'd carry the 101 IWB in a good holster.

Stay safe.
