So my family as this old Ruger 10/22 in our cabinet , it was my grandfathers , he passed so no one knows much other than it is a Ruger 10/22. I did some small research on it and my mother and I believe it to be a Ruger 10/22 Magnum?? Can anyone enlighten me on what a 10/22 Magnum is and is there a price difference???

The side of the receiver will tell you if it's a magnum. It will say .22 Win Mag RF if it's a magnum, or 22LR if it's a regular 10/22. The difference between the magnum and the standard 10/22 is that the magnum fires the larger, more powerful 22 Winchester Magnum cartridge as opposed to the 22 long rifle in the standard 10/22. The 10/22 magnums are more expensive as they are no longer made, due to being problamatic(from what ive heard). A search on gunbroker.com or similar online firearm auction sites should give you an idea of the price.

You need to determine which it is by the above discription.... unlike other magnum calibers (357/38, 41 & 44) you can't use 22 long rifle in 22 mags or vs.... the 10/22 mags are going for a pretty high price.... I think it wasn't just a few problems with the rifle that cause Ruger to stop production but probably sales... heck they tend to fix problems on guns that sell well. Even if there are some problems with yours they can be fixed. Go to Rugerforum.com and ask there.

If it's an older 22 long rifle keep it just like it is.
