Ruger 10/22 Used by Israeli Special Forces

I couldn't believe that the Israeli military was using the 10/22 as a sniper rifle. Rather amazing rifle with many roles, but as a military sniper rifle??

Could be, I seem to remember reading something about the US using a silenced remington (nylon 66?) .22 during the late 60's or thereabouts...
