Ruger 10/22 Stainless 22" Barrel Wood Stock

Just bought a Ruger 10/22 Stainless with a Checkered Wood Stock and a 22" Barrel. I paid a bit more than expected but I purchased it for investment purposes. This one has the Polished Stainless steel barrel. Not the one that looks like it's been sprayed with dull gray paint.

I'd like some comments and or opinions on this particular Rifle please.

Thanks

I don't know about the whole "guns as investments" issue, so I'm going to stay away from it.

I do know something about the 10/22, though. They're a BALL to shoot! And that's what I'd do with it.

If you run a search around here, and in particular in the forum "The Art of the Rifle," you should be able to find a lot more information.

Welcome to The Firing Line, SOCAL KID!

If you mean "investment" in terms of selling it for more than you paid for it, then it's not a wise move. The value went down by 40% the second you walked out the door. But if you mean "investment" in terms of having a fine shooting rifle that will last a lifetime, then you did well. There is a reason why they sell so many 10-22 rifles. They are a ton of fun and are a good value for the low price. But they are not rare and I can't imagine the price going up in my lifetime. Shoot the heck out of it and enjoy your investment in a great American company.

That was a special run sold only at Walmart for a few years. They use the same stock design as the Deluxe model, but it is checkered birch instead of walnut. I bought 2 for my kids. The ones I bought for the kids don't shoot as well as the standard guns I have. I do like the better shaped stock.

Need a bit more information but have an idea of what you have.

1) Barrel; bull , tapered and what sights?
2) Stockl; Birch or walnut? Sounds like you have a sporter.
3) New or used?
4) Reciever; Black or silver finish?
5) Extended mag release; yes or no?
6) With or without scope?

Please get back to us.... ... ;)

Ruger 10/22 Stainless 22" Barrel

I haven't received the Gun yet. It will be shipped to me on Fri 4-15-11

I believe it is the Standard Wally Walmart Model with a checkered Birch stock.
No Bull Barrel
It will have the Magazine Extension
Standard sights
Standard 10 shot rotary magazine
Sling swivels
22" Barrel, no barrel band

I can't see your reply from here so I hope I covered everything. Next time I'll know enough to write down the questions. Live & Learn.

I have some nice Rifles that are up for sale on Gunbroker right now and all of them have at least doubled what I paid for them in 92.
This SS Gun will sit in my safe for the next twenty years or so and then I will put it up for sale for around six hundred or so.

I have a Ruger 10/22 with a blued 18.5 inch barrel that satisfies all my shooting quirks at the moment.

Thanks for the replies guys, Socal Kid

I have one that I got new from "Wallyworld" about 12 years ago. I'v used it to build into my custome gun. That said it shoots so good that I still have the "Ruger" barel on it. It's hard to drop $200 plus on a barel just to improve the look of it. I don't think you got a rare gun but on the side of the action it does say "rifle" not "carbine" and I for one think thats cool. Go shoot it. You'll like it.

What you have is commonly referred to as the "Walmart Special" and your initial description was all that was needed (ya, did just fine) . It was indeed a run that Ruger made for Walmart and it lasted a few years. While not all that rare they do command a good price even used, generally $300-$350. Accuracy is generally on par with 10/22 carbines but the longer barrel and better, full sized stock give the Walmart Special a decidedly full size "rifle" feel (instead of a carbine feel). Towards the end of their run Ruger switched to the plastic trigger groups with the extended mag release and most 10/22 gurus would consider that a "slight" knock on it's value if your's has the plastic one. Enjoy.

BTW, my VQ trigger modified "Walmart Special" is for sale if ya here of anyone interested. Just don't need it.

Yep, Walmart, 22 inch stainless steel barrel, no barrel band, yep rifle not carbine, I use it for 50 to 100 yards, very accurate. Of course I did not leave it alone, did not like the stock, this one is much lighter and more fun to use.

LOL!!!! You mean when gas is $12.50 a gallon???

These are Ruger Model #1149. It has been a number of years since Walmart carried them, but Lipseys and AbleAmmo have them brand new. Given the long barrel, I think this is the ultimate open sight 10/22. Put a set of tech-sites on it, and you have a great rifle.
