ruger 10/22 receiver finish

I recently was trying to clean up a couple little rust spots on my 10/22. By the time i was starting to get it somewhat cleaned up (wasn't even bad just bugged me) the bluing was starting to come off. No big deal time to learn how to blue a rifle i figured. So i got out the sandpaper and bought a bluing kit. Figured i may as well do the receiver as well.... Now i understand that bluing is oxidization related.(Aluminum receiver) Barrel looks terrific but what do i do with the receiver? Do i have to paint it, or is there a better way to do it? Thought about polishing it out but then it would be chrome reciever black scope, barrel, trigger, green laminate thumb hole stock. It would look bad. Thanks in advance

Refinishing Cast Aluminum Parts

There is a great actical in the lastest issue of GUNS magazine that covers this pretty well and what your optins might be. Reference page 22 in the April 2010 issue. They mentions the the latest and greatest product is Black-T and RhinoHide and list vendor or service information ...

I ended up just painting it with some rustoleum. It turned out ok for now, actually it looks great, but it may go bad fast. If it does I will probably go with duracoat since they are about ten miles from my house. Blued the barrel and it turned out fantastic. Thanks for the advice on the receiver i researched it. But painting was faster for me, for now.

Receiver finnish.

Hi all.
I have glass bead blasted ally parts and receivers and the finnish is quite good and unusual. If you know of anyone with a blasting cabinate and some glass bead get him to do a small piece off ally for you to see the finnish.

Hope this helps. Chubbs.
