Ruger 10-22 nicking bullet nose

My 10-22 is nicking the nose of the bullet as it feeds. On first examination I thought it was the front of the magazine biting the bullet but after relieving and polishing the front of the mag the problem was still there. After cleaning I fed five rounds (operating the bolt by hand) and found traces of lube at about ten o'clock at the mouth of the chamber. This is happening with four different brands of ammo and three different clips.

Anyone have any suggestions or answers?

Polishing the magazine didn't help because you polished the wrong part of the magazine. Your 10/22 is feeding nose high, and the nose is hitting the chamber mouth. Either get a new magazine (about $10), or disassemble the one you have and recut the rear of the magazine feed lips. Cheaper to get a new mag, trust me.
