Ruger 10/22: MiniMag vs Stinger: Sighting-In Question

Using a Ruger 10/22, I sighted in my rifle at 25 yards with 40 grain MiniMags. If I now shoot 32 grain Stingers, should my 25 yard POI still be exactly the same, or will I need to adjust my sights to accomodate the Stingers, either because of the weight difference or the velocity difference?

They won't hit in the same place.

Mini-Mags are great, accurate rounds.

I've found that Stingers are highly erratic out of the standard 10/22 barrel and should be avoided like the plague.

I typically don't see mini-mags as all that accurate. Maybe in one or two guns they were acceptable, but not for the most part. This thread brought out my test results from May 11 where the Stingers proved to be better than the mini-mags. Mini-mags made 5 holes in 5 shots and the spread was 1.5 inches wide and 1 inch tall. The Stingers made 3 holes in 5 shots and the spread was one half inch wide and one inch tall. Mini-mags were a little higher and the group for the Stingers was a little lower on the paper.

I don't have a 10/22, I own a Savage, but the principles are the same. When I got my rifle, I sighted in with Stingers. Big mistake. All my other ammo shot 2 to 3 inches lower at 75 feet. The stingers held their elevation better is my guess. So, unless I planned on only using stingers, it wasn't a good move. I popped in some mini-mags and resighted and have had no issues. But I remember to make the adjustment mentally with stingers.

Except for a little testing now and then I have used nothing but Mini-Mags since they came out in the '60s and can't find a reason to change.

This was shot last Sat. with a 60 year old Mossberg bolt action Model 144 with a 40 year old 3x9 scope set on 3X @ a measured 50 yds sitting at the picnic table. 7 shots because that's the magazine capacity. 1" bullseye.

Yes, it shoots even better with match ammo.

Exactly my experience also. They don't like my bull barrel that much more either.
