Ruger 10/22 magazine disassembly

I'm having problems getting the magazine rotor spring tension set up correctly. The owners manual say 1 and 1 quarter turns of the magazine cap nut (after the rotor stops turning). This is not enough spring tension. I've tried a couple of other settings but no joy. The owner's manual says to clean the magazine without disassembly by spraying it out real well with solvent, but I've never been able to get a box magazine really clean without taking it down to clean. George, I need some of your wisdom and experience please.

SW, remove the screw at the front of the magazine. Then you can take the back plate off and the internal parts can be taken out toward the rear. DON'T REMOVE THE SPRING FROM THE ROTOR. If after you clean the mag it still doesn't give the correct tension by the factory recommended settings I think it will be time to get a replacement. George

I've not disassembled a 10/22 mag, so I can't advise you there. However, after you get it working again, I've not felt it necessary to disassemble the mag for cleaning for it to function reliably. My cleaning method (usually after 200-300 rounds) is to flush it out with Gun Scrubber or Tetra Gun Action Blaster, let it dry for a few minutes, then lube the innards with one of the dry lube products like Birchwood Casey Moly Lube. My mags have worked flawlessly.
