Ruger 10/22 Help...

I decided to get a Ruger 10/22. I really liked the looks of the Marlin 7000T with the Red, White, Blue laminated stock..but after reading all the aftermarket stuff for the Ruger I decided to get it instead. And, then build the .22lr I want.
Now, before I buy one, I have some questions as to which model to buy. I plan to replace the barrel with a carbon fiber one. I plan to replace the stock with something more exotic (ex. Choate, Dragunov, etc)... I'm still checking on exotic stocks..

My question being...since I'm going to replace the above mentioned items, does it matter which model Ruger 10/22 I buy? Must I get the 10/22T if I plan to use a 20 inch carbon fiber barrel? I was told that once you remove the barrel and stock they all are the same.... is this true.. if so, I can buy the cheapest 10/22 carbine and use the extra money for "goodies".... am I safe to assume this?

Thanks for any feedback here...

Get the cheapest one they have---since you are going to replace everything. They also have after-market hammers--sears and such.

Yep... get the cheapest one you can find if you're going to trick it out... there aren't any "this 10/22 only" parts(other than some 10/22MAG parts, but you know..)

The options are only limited by your imagination(and budget :( ) Good luck!! :D

Agreed - get the cheapest one. Also, keep in mind that most Wal Marts have factory Ruger 10-round mags for the 10/22 for under $10 each.

Get a used 10/22

IF u can find a used Ruger 10/22. From what u have described the only part of the gun that u really want is the receiver and bolt. Everything else on the gun is replaceable - Since the receiver is basically indestructable (along with the bolt) Get the cheapest old gun that u can find and replace the parts (and u can save yourself some bucks). Because I am a po' boy and really hate to waste things, I am going to shoot my Ruger's bbl out as much as I can AND than switch out bbl and stock. But if I knew as much about the 10/22s as I do now, I would have looked around for the cheapest used 10/22 and tricked her out. But whatever u do, have fun!! 10/22 is probably the most fun gun to shoot IMHO.
