I now have a Ruger #1 in 45-70 thanks to all the great replies to my question about the 45-70. Thanks to everyone.

Now, this gun is a 200th Liberty model in immaculate condition.

I have been told that Ruger #1's need hammer and trigger jobs, well I aint much into competition target shooting, but can a trigger job and hammer job make the gun any better????

Will it affect the value of the rifle is either or both are done?

Thanks for the help.

God bless

Frankly, I'm not real sure why some folks think they need this work. The No.1's I have owned, including the one I currently hunt with, have had excellent triggers - and I'm picky about triggers. They are even adjustable although I've never felt the need to adjust one.

Since you have the rifle just dry fire it a bit and see what YOU think. Please be sure it's unloaded. I know that goes without saying but the NRA instructor in me can't make assumptions.
