how long does a set of rubber grips last on average? i have a ruger police service six and bought some mustang grips from numrich for spares. i have the one's on the gun and 2 spare sets, just wanted to know how long they last. thanks
Had Pachmayr's on my .45 for over 35 years and the factory grips on my GP100 for nearly as long. Suspect your's will last until your grandson pries your Ruger out of your hand.
My Pachmayr has been around that long also. But that was made before China took over the world.
It's actually a good question to ask a plastics engineer as there are a huge number of different types of polymers.
BOB your guns have way too much class for rubber...
I have a set Hogues on a Dan Wesson 44 magnum snubbie, those are 15-20 years old... the hot loads I was shoot that day were scrubbing little rubber shavings off in my hand...
so I'd think the life could easily vary by type of rubber or grip manufacturer, the shape ( finger groove or presentation ) & the forces subjected on the grips...
BTW... had a set on a Taurus "raging" that didn't stay on very long... I set it on my work bench on Sunday, & by the time I got back to it 3-4 days later... a mouse had decided they were pretty tasty
I think the Hogue grips will last a lot longer on that Dan Wesson, if I put the barrel nut compensator back on it, so I eliminate that eraser effect in my palm
