RRA ATH...

About to order a Rock River Arms Advanced Tactical Hunter. Just wondering if anyone in TFL land has or had one and what do you think? I am ordering it but will probably keep it at my Dads and let him plink away at yotes and Ghogs with it. And it will be a back up home defense gun.

I am also ordering a BCM RECCE 16 but I have experience in BCM.

Thanks TFL'ers.

I have the RRA predator pursuit and in all honesty for the money in my own opinion you could not do better when it comes to reliability and built. The younger crowd with the least experience will always try to impress their own peers with name brands and dish out extra $$$ for a product that may or may not shoot better than the RRA. My RRA shoots better than is guaranteed for this particular model which is 3/4 moa. I have shot four different 5 shot groups at 100 yards using hornady superformance 55gr match bullets. Avg group for the four groups was .683.

For the money this company produces a great product, not mediocre and the 2 stage trigger is more than adequate. I have shot several brands of ammo and purposely did not clean the rifle until several hundred rounds were fired. I never once experienced a malfunction. I finally cleaned it because the Army in me could not let go any further. Buy with confidence. It may not have all the bells and whistles that other AR's do but I would gladly put my rifle against theirs without hesitation. Only modification I have put on mine is a magpul prs, I just like the look.

It is ordered along with the BCM.

Went with tan stock and grip. Rifle length handguard instead of the mid. BCM large latch charging handle.

I could have purchased the Elite Operator II for $955 but I wanted the different barrel and a few other options and what is another $100 for something you really want.

Will post a range report of each on here after receiving them. Looking 60 days on the RRA and 2-3 weeks on the BCM.

I have an Elite Operator II. I bought it new in January, it is the first AR I have ever owned.

Love it so far, and my experience with accuracy is similar to ms6852. With lake city M193 55 gr, my 10 round group was about 2 inch. With a winchester 223 64 gr soft points, I was making 1 inch groups. Considering this weapon has a 5.56 chamber 16 inch barrel, I was real happy with that.

Regarding the trigger: it is a little heavier than my Weatherby bolt gun, and it does not break as cleanly, but it is close. It is quite a bit better than most AR triggers, or mini-14s.

Have an ATH and am extremely pleased with it's accuracy. If possible and not time dependent, would order it with a more effective brake, or just get a flash hider.

It easily is under 1/2 inch with handloads it likes. The brake/compensator does little for directing gas to lesson lift or recoil, even with the weight of the rifle.

I'm the happy owner of a RRA ATH. As others have said, the ATH is a very accurate rifle. Mine will consistently shoot 3/4" five shot groups at 100 yards with BH SMK's. As far as reliability, I have put ~2500 rounds through the rifle without a single FTF or FTE.

I got one in a somewhat different setup (they said they could do it)

I went with a 16 inch barrel as I am only doing 100 yards max and target shooting, not long range yote etc.

They did not tell me it shifted a couple of things. It came sans the winter trigger guard (I can get it if I want just a bit disappointed as I do cold weather shooting at times but has not been an issue with new Patagonia light glove liners).

Also did not get the star safety and happy without that.

I like the stock (and the CARR actually has a cheek adjust as I found out, the but plate release and slides down raising the stock which they had no literature on it).

The manual sucks but you can buy a good book (its a US military M16/MR manual of all things you cannot read and a reminder of what you have been taught, not a good picture of what you do not know).

The gas block was loose when I got it. Not big deal but a bit ugly quality wise but easy to fix once I figured out what the non cyclign problem was. Rest of the gun is simply beautifully done.

Staking on the gas key was excellent despite the reports you hear.

The two state match trigger is really good. I got the chromed on and I think its better than the plain

Also got the chromed BCG and I like it and the blasted barrel (stainless) which looks good)

While I do not like ARs (contradiction Iknow but I think the ergonomics of the controls suck while the DI is fine) I want to shoot good accuracy and that setup will do it in 5 shot groups while pistons tend to drift off.

I really do like the handling feel and setup of it.

Overall a great gun, I like the split 1-8 twist for max bullet choice and the Wylde chamber for accuracy
