RPK $650 good deal?

found a RPK with its bipod [new] CIA importer, any good? I seen a bunch of videos and it looks fun. $650+tax at a gun store.

It is really just an ak with a longer barrel and bi pod. Real RPk rifles have a thicker receiver. That being said, its probably fine and fun to shoot, so if you like it why not? You would be better off it it had the fixed stock rather than the folding. I don't know why they put the folding stocks on those rifles. I guess that is what was laying around.

I don't think Id pay $650 for it though.

JG Sales was selling Polish RPKs for $520 earlier this year, but I don't see them listed any more. $650 doesn't sound out of line for a retail price, particularly since they don't seem to be in the wholesale channel at the moment (at least not on SOG, JG or Century)

Is it Chinese, Yugo, or what? $650.00 compared to what? Is that out of line for an AK? A shooting buddy years back snagged an "RPK" and I seem to remember that it was built on a somewhat heavier receiver.

Yeah, we're gonna need a lot more information than that. CAI has made many iterations of RPKs over the years. The one DLiller is referring to isn't an RPK at all, it was CAI's attempt at an "RPK"-like gun, that no one bought, literally and figuratively  it's known as the AES-10. HOWEVER--- they have since come out with the AES-10A and AES-10B, which are both in fact honest to god RPKs on semi auto (thick) receivers. I own the latter, and it is an outstanding gun. The quickest way to tell if it's one of the good ones- the bipod should fold BACKWARD, and it's mounted towards the muzzle. My AES10B was $720 or so new, and the AES-10A's are still driving a price near that, mine is a little more due to the folder. If it's an AES-10 with the long skinny barrel and silly bipod, stay away. If it's an A or B, jump on it- they've only been going up in price (quality as well, however- mine is completely devoid of all CAI afflictions mentioned on the net).

A quick picture would sure help ;)

Good:

However, this one doesn't have the "true" RPK bipod, with the adjustment screws. It's a PKM bipod, so it was an earlier production run of the AES-10B as opposed to a later one that has the correct one.

I mean, he did a good job- just on the less desirable one.

Yes, the first picture looks just like it, the wood is about that finish and has the underlug with the bipod that far up the barrel. I wonder if they come with the knife? :D

If its like the first one, that isn't a bad buy.

I had not seen the new ones they came out with.

My buddy had a home built one that was a lot of fun to shoot.
