roundball or kirst converter...?

the Black Spot

i am looking at those .45 schofield kirst conveters with loading gate for my '60 army. my problem is why spend all that money when the ballistics are pretty much the same between the 147 gr rb and 180 .45 schofield. on top of that it is probably just as fast to swap out cylinders as it is to drop out empties and reload fresh shells.
i guess the only real advantage is black powder verse smokeless?

thanks in advance

I have a converter for my ROA, but use the B/p cylinders more. I bought 2 spare cylinders and can get 18 rounds off about as fast as a modern revolver. The round ball is definitely more accurate out of the B/p than any of the smokless combos that I've tried. Save your money and get extra cylinders.

I have a .45 schofield kirst converter being fitted to my '60 army and I just picked up a few boxes of .45 schofield to try out. I did the same with my SS Uberti 1858 (added loading gate) and to my ROA. My rationalization was not for speed of reload- I am just not in a hurry-:D
I set these up solely to have a little variety is all- I have this little addiction to convertible firearms-multi calibers & 22 conversions-

Fortunately I have not been able to find a 12-step group to help so I will continue into the abyss.;)

I have always felt I didn't want a conversion cylinder. I have plenty of SA cartridge revolvers. Well, I guess I changed my mind. I just swapped a Colt .31 pocket for a 5.5 inch 1858 Remington with a .45lc cylinder. Now to find some good black powder recipes for the LC.

I'm still lusting for a Richards-Mason conversion, badly.
