round butt or square?

Can anyone tell me if the current model 4" 686P is considered a round butt or a square butt? I'm a little confused because I know that some guns are round butt frames but are equipped with square butt style grips. I want to order some Pachmayer Decelerators for a 686P (which I don't have in hand yet) but I'm not sure whether to order the round butt or the square butt grip. Thanks a lot. Fleiger

Round.

Look at this link for a good diagram of the difference between square and round butt:

The difference should not be hard to identify upon visual inspection once you know what they look like.

Round or Square Butt

Mr. Fleiger, your best bet would be to go to the manufacture's website to be sure. I had the same questions about my S&W 649 2"1/2. That's the best I can tell you, I hope it helps you. Bill

I like round butt guns the best, I've have modified several Smith K Frame Square Butt guns to Round Butt. Better o conceal you with.
