Rough action on a 1984 WIN 30-30

I have a 1984 Winchester 30-30 (made in USA). The action is fairly rough. Short of taking it to a gunsmith for some "smoothing-out" work, is there anything I can do myself (in the way of filing parts, etc.) that might make the action a bit smoother?

When your'e just sitting there watching tv just work the action over and over and it'll smooth out. That's what I and others have done with Rossi rifles which come pretty rough from the factory. Mine isn't as smooth as having a smith smooth it out but its much more silky after a few hours of working the action.

This^^^ but fill the action with white lithium grease first.

The last thing you'd want to do it take it to a smithy for that. At close to $100 per hour.
You could completely disassemble it and polish (No files or rotary tools!) out the tool marks on all the parts, but you'd still have a rifle with a 100 plus year old design. That's the real issue with Win 94's.
If you want a .30-30 lever action that is smooth, buy a Marlin 336.

Bought a 1974 336 from original owner,..

and it was rough.

Got a parts diagram and took it a part and detailed, with fresh Hoppe's and as I assembled it lightly used a Fine "Norton" brand stone to eliminate rough edges and burrs the I could feel.

Even lightly stoned the vertical locking channels i the receiver.
Lightly lube with "Super Lube" and its a quiet smooooth lever gun.
