rossi wizard?

looking to get a new gun possibly, probably in 30-06. i like the idea of buying one rifle and having interchangeable barrels. nef requires you send them the receiver to fit the barrel which is a huge turnoff. thompson center is more money than i want to pay, mainly due to the fact that i love the marlin x7 series and would gladly buy another one of those first. rossi wizard is pretty new, comes in a few calibers i want, and the advertisement sounds good. biggest problem...its a rossi. they have such mixed reviews, and while i've never shot one, i have a feeling there is a reason for such general negativity. this is their elite rifle so to speak, and the company is supposed to be better now taurus owns them. i know not a lot of taurus fans either. anyways i cannot find any real reviews of them on the internet only on other rossi guns. i am not interested in any other rossi guns so please, has anyone shot this gun? the number one concern with me is accuracy. number 2 trigger. the rest i can live with. thanks
 
is there nobody in the world that has even picked this gun up? lol poor rossi probably couldn't find a fan if they had ruger make the gun for them...
 
I looked at one at Gander mountain last week it was chambered in 243. I will consider getting one when they release the muzzleloader barrel and i may consider a big bore round, 45-70, for fun. They do look and feel nice.
 
I sold one of those in 22-250 do a customer a few months back the next day the guy came in ta send it out for repair because the round he put in and fired would not eject. I thought oh its another one of these retards that doesn't know how to operate a rifle. I took it from him and attempted to take it apart and for the life of me could not get it undone. We ended up having to send it back came in a few weeks later guy picked it up haven't seen him or the gun since.
 
they are kinda hit and miss the ones that are good are real good and the ones that are bad are real bad if u get one look it over real good before u buy it
 
It had a trigger lock on it, but i know people have problems with taurus, i had to send my judge back to get fixed, but it is still fun and works good now. I would still buy a wizard.
 
I have a Rossi .223 and am very pleased with it. It fits me very well, is well balanced, and accurate. The trigger is surprisingly smooth and not too heavy. Maybe I got lucky, but I don't think you can do better for the price. I would say to handle one, and if it fits well, buy it.
 
sounds good. i am still working on another rifle right now, so it may be a little while before i get around to getting one, but will probably try one. if i don't like it i guess i can always resell it.
 
I have a 17HMR Rossi and after mounting a cheap simmons scope on it the rifle was extremely accurate. The factory iron sights were terrible, other than that it was a nice rifle.
 
I don't own a Rossi... but here's my tale.

I do own a Taurus .357 which, like the Rossi rifle, is a copy of an American design. Mine is fantastic! But I have two friends who own them also- theirs are junk! Even after several trips back to the factory. Moral: 1 out of 3.

I also own 3 NEF Handi-Rifles. All three are amazing shooters. I send 'em away in the winter months for their new barrels. All of my friends who own them have shooters too. 5 out of 5. And made in the USA. And NEF really only requires you to have their barrels factory fitted because the lawyers need to eat too.
 
My Rossi experience

I bought a rossi wizard with .223 REM barrel and had problems with the ejector but i fixed that by cleaning it and breaking it in. I hate the fact that the front sites were way off. Ended up just taking the sites and using the rail. I also ordered a scope.

That's funny, because we sold a Rossi Wizard in .223 to a customer, and it wouldn't fire rounds consistently. He would get a solid hit from the firing pin, but would only shoot when it wanted to. Ammo changes made no difference, so we sent it back for him. Two months later, we got it back, and it had the same issue. We tried to break it down to see if we could figure it out, and realized that it wouldn't break down. The fore end was stuck to the barrel and wouldn't even respond to moderate prying. We sent it back again, and this time it came back 6 weeks later, with the same issue and a cracked and repaired fore end. Back to Rossi, and they have had it about 2 months, this time. I'm interested to see it's condition this go-around.

Not impressed with Rossi or their customer service, at this point, and I have steered people away from them, because of this customer's issues.

But as a wall-hanger, I guess you could do worse.

I don't know where you came up with that idea.

Used guns are like used cars:
Trade-in value, with a same-day purchase from the same dealer, will generally be 40%-60% of market value.
Trade-in value, with no purchase from the dealer, will generally be 30-50% of market value (less for slow-movers).
A private sale at market value is... market value (which happens to be 100% of market value... rather than 50%) ;)
 
I got a Rossi Wizard in 22-250, also had ejector issues, worked fine to start with, and then something went in it now if you drop a round in it slides right past the ejector and gets stuck in the breech, or if you delicately put the round in so that it fits properly, pull the trigger, the damn thing doesn't eject.
Is off being repaired now but it has been gone for a month and a half now. The problem is that the ejector housing is all welded to the bottom of the barrel, so I have no idea how the repair man is going to get to it.
It is probably some small tiny piece that is broken but is impossible to get to due the design. They really should replace my barrel, will be the simpliest solution.
Concept is a great one. I just hope someone else starts making some aftermarket barrels for it in other calibres, and with an easy to repair or stronger ejector.
Firing wise, it seemed to shoot well, only got to line up three targets with it, and one bullet each and they were history. Had been looking to try it on Deer, but with the rate this repair is taking the roar will be over by the time I get it back.
 
Two faulty Wizards

Sorry to drag up such an old thread guys but there's hardly any info out there about the wizard so I figure I should share my experience. Probably nearly two years ago I got a Rossi Wizard in 7mm-08 that wouldnt open after being shot, once it was opened the case would be stuck and I'd have to take a cleaning rod to it to get the shell out. Needless to say I returned it.

I decided I'd like to get another .223 recently and ended up giving the wizard another go and ended up with a gun at had the exact same issues!!! What's worse is I hear similar things from a friend who bought one. All you an find on the net is people with similar experiences, yet I'm the only sob dumb enough to buy a second one after wing burned.

I really like the concept of the gun, and it felt very comfortable and had an awesome trigger but damn... Spend the extra money on a model 700 and you won't regret it. I will never ever buy another Rossi as a result of this.
 
Thanks jwilson48. I'm actually picking up a Handi rifle in .223 tomorrow. There's something cool about a single shot. Wanting something that can reach out a bit further than my 17HMR.
