rossi M92 barrel band problem

I have problem with a Rossi M92 that I got recently. It sounds ridiculous, but I have not been able to fix it.

I had the barrel band off to do some finishing on the front stock, and now I can't get the dang screw to go back in. It has to go thru one side of the band, thru the wood grip, passing thru a notch in the bottom of the barrel, and then connect with the band on the other side to screw into the threads on that side of the band. The pin will go thru but it just spins. I can't get it to start into the threads on the other side.

Is there some trick anybody has to getting this pin back in??

try removing it again and see if you can start the screw in while it is off of the forearm. maybe it is stripped? if it starts and tightens then try it again on the forearm; maybe it is binding somewhere

Did you get anything on the wood, that's under the barrel band, which would cause it to swell, and not allow the band to close far enough for the screw to reach the threads?
That'd be my first guess.
