Rossi m92 45 LC feeding problem

Hello:

My new Rossi M92 45 LC is very rough in terms of feeding. I have to double stroke the lever to get the rounds to feed. I have triple checked the measurements on my ammo and everything is within specs so ... what could the problem be?

Anyone else have this problem? Do I need to see a gunsmith or is there a monkey-see monkey-do way I can fix this at the workbench?

Thanks

Steve's Gunz sells a DVD that might could help you, if it's something you wanted to try and fix on your own. He is generally considered to be a Rossi 92 guru. 'Course he is closed for business while he moves.

Other than that, you might call Rossi. I'm no expert, but while I've heard that some rifles don't seem to like SWCs, not feeding RNFPs seems odd.

Sorry I couldn't be more concrete help. Good luck with your '92.

You're probably short stroking it. Mine you had to really slam the lever down to get the carrier to rise. I filled the action with white lithium grease and worked it for a couple or three hours. Now it will feed rounds with one finger.

I second the Steve's Gunz video if you want to save some money on a gunsmith. I did all the mods on my Rossi 92 45lc and the thing is now by far my favorite levergun, its very easy to do if you have a bit of aptitude and a afternoon. Mine shoots SWC's now just as easily as any other round I feed it.

Actually, I gave up and took it to the shop where I bought it. They have a gunsmith on premises and he says he will sort it out free of charge.

If it's like my 357 it's very sensitive to bullet type and cartridge OAL. I found that with mine (primarily shooting american eagle jacketed soft points) they will hang up if i dont work the action fast and hard, which from what I've gathered is how these guns need to be run.

However when I use the shorter 38 specials i can work it as slow and easy as i like.

Rossi uses an absurdly strong ejector spring which causes the case rim to bind in the guides. Reducing the spring tension with an aftermarket spring helps.
