Rossi lever action rifles

How do Rossi lever action rifles compare to a winchester or a marlin? Is the quality there, or are they more Taurus/Rossi junk? I have never shot one of these and was in my local gun shop and they have a R92 .357 lever action for $560.00 Is this a good buy or should I hold out for a Marlin 1894c (one that was built before Remington got control of Marlin) or maybe a winchester. Looking for either .357 or maybe a 30-30 lever action.

theyre very fun to shoot, action is very smooth and they feed well. Marlins were converted to pistol cals from the 30-30 but the rossi's were built for the pistol rounds.

i saw no quality issues while (briefly) firing a Rossi 92, but i have no doubt that the winchesters and Marlins (marlin especially) will be of a higher fit and finish. I have no experience with these other two however.

They do however, cost twice the price, at least were I'm from.

I would say that they are far below winchester and marlin standards. a few guys recommend them but many more will swear by marlin and winchester. if you get a 30-30, the marlin 336 is cheaper than the rossi but if you go with 357 the marlin 1894 will cost about another $200 depending on where you get it. ever since rossi and taurus became partners in crime much of their QC went downhill and many guys that had been die hard rossi fans were converted to marlin fans(even with the post remington downfall).

I have a Rossi 92 -big loop 16" saddle ring in .45 Colt. I also have a Winchester 94AE in .45 colt. The Rossi is quicker, lighter and 'feels' better. The wood is nicer on the Winchester, as is the bluing, but other than that, the Rossi would be my choice if I had to pick between the two.
I've not had a Marlin but my brother has a 30-30 336c. Fine rifle, I just don't like their appearance.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a new Rossi M92 .357/.38 with 20" blue barrel for $400 at a local gun show. Over the years I have owned levers from Winchester, Marlin, Henry and now Rossi. Fit and finish of Rossi is as good as Win and Marlin but not as good as Henry. Although the action is still a bit stiff as I have only shot about 220 rounds, the Rossi appears to be the equal of the others. Time will tell how well this performs after much more usage.

The stated price of $560 is way out of line with what is available in Western NY but I do realize that the .357's are a hot item right now and if one is available, the seller sets his price. Good luck.

I was looking at the rossi 45/70 the price is almost the same as marlin 1895 the differance the rossi holds 6 +1 and marlin just 4 .

At the CAS matches I shoot at, the Marlins and Ubertis tend to be more reliable than the Rossis. I have used a Marlin, a Winchester and the Uberti, I'm sticking with Uberti (a '73 replica).

My Rossi 92 runs fine and is accurate.
Before I accullay got mine in my hands I thought about sending it in to Paco Kelly to get it tuned/slicked up. But when it arrived it was slick out the box, and getting slicker with each outing!! I had a pre top safety Rossi 92 that was pretty slick but not near to what the new SS Model was out the box.
I wont part with mine until the good lord takes me.

I dont own a Rossi but my dad has a one and it is flawless works every time a great gun the Marlins are good too just beware of the Marlin Jam with the 1894's the 336 are not as problematic as the 1894's are.

I've had a couple of the Rossi 92s in .357. The actions were a bit stiff, but both fed everything from 125gr JHPs to 200gr hardcast with absolute reliability. Great little guns.

After a years worth of online research I bought a Rossi 92 24" octogon barrel, blue rifle in 45 Colt caliber. It is worth the 497 buck out the door price to me.

I have shot 3 different home cast bullets RCBS 452-255gr. SWC LEE 255gr. SWC, LEE 255gr RNFP and the Winchester SilverTip factory load. The rifle has fed fired and ejected without a hitch, going on close to 800 rnds.

The wood to metal finish is good to very good, the grain of the Brazilian hard wood has some character and a simulated hand rubbed matte finish. The polishing of the receiver could be better, some light marks are still showing under the bright blue, but the color is even and the curved steel butplate matches the receiver, the barrel and magazine tube are more of a matte blue and the two although contrasting are pleasing to the eye.

The action was smoother than I expected, and gets smoother with every use.Trigger pull is heavy, but no creep or grit.

There are drawbacks, as in the stock sights, if you are 35 years old or younger or gifted with better than average sight, you can get by with the factory ones.

The ejector spring will throw your brass into the next county, so plan on bumping into the guy that shoots a MINI 14, while you both hunt for it!

Being a Winchester 1892 clone, the rifle has the traditional 1/2 cock safety. Why in the heck did they put that little PIMPLE WITH A PENIS on top of the bolt ? They even dress it up with RED and GREEN paint! Don't know about them BOYS FROM BRAZIL!!!!

Stevesgunz can furnish you with the firing pin saftey replacment plug, a reduced power ejector spring, and a metal magazine tube spring follower to replace the cheese yellow plastic factory one. He also has a great DVD on disassembley, tuning. Finger nail polish remover (not mine, the wifes :D) makes quick work of the red F and green S paint. A complete stripping and detail cleaning is advised, lots of chips and left overs from the factory!

I opted for Marbles full buckhorn rear and 3/32" ivory bead front sights.
Being a tightwad and wanting the Marbles Tang sight but not the cost, I modified a Lyman #2 Tang sight to fit the Rossi by elongating the rear hole and rethreading the rear tang screw thats furnished with the Lyman sight to metric thread, touched them up with cold blue.

The 1 in 30" twist shoots all 3 of the home cast bullets into a 4" gong from 50- 75 yds off hand, using powders from 2400 to Unique and TrailBoss. Haven't really tried any thumper H 110-W296 Ruger only loads but the 92 action shouldn't have any problems handling those.

With the CAS shooters gobbling up all the Marlin Cowboys, Winchesters going for a premium, and if your looking for a pistol caliber lever to complement a hand gun, take a harder look at the Rossi 92.
