Rossi 972

I have been looking at a stainless steel Rossi 972 and wondered it anyone out there has one or knows anything about them?

I owned one of the original 971 stainless 4" (now only available in blue/you have to get 6" for stainless and it is called the 972)...and it was a fine gun...to me "just right sized." I fed it a diet of about 66% .38 and .38 Plus P, and 33% .357 and it was fine. Ultimately lost it in a hunting incident several years ago...climbing up an incline through nearly impenetrable brush. Something caught the holster release and the gun slipped out without me even knowing it til later...tried but couldn't retrace our steps so it's probably still out there! Still miss that gun!

I had a 971 a few years ago. Overall, not a bad pistol but not one I would buy again. Mine had a persistent tendency for the cylinder to bind after maybe 50 rounds...nothing I've ever experienced with other 357s. Also, the cylinder was shorter than others so that, for example, a Lyman .358311 would be too long to chamber. Trigger pull was decent; overall workmanship was OK. If I were looking for a stainless .357, I'd take a close look at a S&W 686. The S&W purchased used should appreciate over time; the same probably can't be said for the Rossi.
