Rossi 971

I had one a few years ago. Trigger was fairly good for the price. Main drawbacks were the tendency for the cylinder to bind after 25 - 50 rounds and the fact that the cylinder was shorter than some of the other .357s so it wouldn't chamber a .357 using the Lyman .358311 round nose bullet. I bought it used and I think I got most of my money out of it...somewheres around $200. If you are interested in a .357, I think you would be happier with a S&W, Colt or Ruger.

My dad got it as a gift from one of his secretaries a while back she also gave him a box of .38 specials can you use them in the gun?

It's just one of those guns that you get what you pay for. I have a 462, which is the shorter version of the 971 and in my opinion, I would be thrilled if someone gave it to me as a gift. I've never had any problems with it and I trust it enough to carry sometimes, but if I had it to do again, I would probably spend a little more and get a ruger. .38's are fine. In fact, i've never even shot .357's throught mine.

I've got two 720's and they are great guns. One with hammer spur and one without. Got to love any "smallish" .44 Special. I carry a S&W M296 because it is so light. Otherwise I would seriously consider one of those guns. Poor man's 696!
