AM looking into buying my first revolver and a local gun shop has a Rossi 851, made by Taurus. 4" barrel .38 special +P, blued, adjustable sights, vent rib barrel. Good looking gun, for around $300. Does anyone have one or had any experience with one?

Rossi's are okay...they're supposed to be the economy line of Taurus but many people prefer them over the Taurus line.

Is that gun new or used? The price seems high compared to what I've seen from Rossi the last few years...but I haven't actually been pricing Rossi for some time now.

Personally, I'd pass and take a chance on one of the old S&W Model 10s that abound on the internet for half the price. At least there you'll have more parts, better trigger and better quality overall.

Id get the new Rossi over the plethora of used model 10's that are supposedly out there. $300.00 is about the going rate for the gun--I paid $300.00 for my 972 Rossi.

I had one Pre-+P rated. Nice gun. Cost me $165 new in 90'.. For $300 , I'd buy a used S&W though. Should be able t find something nice in a S&W for that kind of $. The Rossi's and Taurus do not hold their values.
