Rossi 462

Y'all, my Rossi 2" model 462 looks great. But for some strange reason it suddenly stopped functioning: pulling the trigger failed to cause the cylinder to rotate and the firing pin failed to leave any impression on the primer. Anyone has any comment/advice/recommendation, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Not more than 250 of standard 38 spl.

Not more than 250 of standard 38 spl. And the gun was brand new when purchased. But during the shooting the gun was accurate. It is very convenient for concealed carry. But I'd hate to know that all I could do with it is use it as a missile if ever a need should arise.

send it back.....

They are needing to fix it........sure isn't giving me any good vibes about Rossi...............Hope you get it back soon........good luck and lets hear how they make it right.... :)

Yeah, Send it in then. I really liked the 462 also, but something like this is kinda scaring me away! BUT, a huge advantage that you have is a lifetime warranty...Taurus will do the work, and you'll have to post if they do it well! The other guns I'm looking at are older and from "better" namebrand makers, but you don't get that warranty either.

Will keep you updated

Surely, I'll keep this forum updated on this issue. I now have to go thru the hassle of shipping it back to the factory. One UPS store displays a colored sign saying that they do not handle packages with firearms. I'm not liking this one bit. Yes, the gun comes with a lifetime warranty, but I shudder to think that I will have to spend a lifetime going thru this. ;)

ergh, good point..and its gotta go to brazil too huh!

Be careful shipping it, don't want some punk mail kid pocketing a revolver. You know what? If you haven't sent it, maybe try a local gunshop first. It could be a relatively inexpensive repair...the little 426 IS beautiful, so in my opinion...worth repairing. Maybe it'd be worth the cash on shipping and time spent without gun to just get it repaired locally...

Prolly wouldn't be THAT much :), Just my 2 cents

Benzene,
I've been giving this some thought, Is it possible that the ejector rod has come unscrewed a bit? Thus binding the cylinder. I had a problem with my 462 doing that. If that is the case it's not difficult to fix but you have to be careful not to bend the ejector star. Just load cyclinder with empty brass and make sure you protect the rod with a thick piece of leather or something.
If you are not comfortable trying this I'm sure it would be a fairly low cost procedure at your local shop.
At least cheaper than shipping it back.

I hope one of us here can help.

Greatly appreciated

Rodger p, I do greatly appreciate your time and assistance. I'll surely try this technique.

The thing is that the cylinder rotates normally in 1 or 2 cases and fails the remaining times.

Also, I've noticed that .357 cartridges do not sit normally in the cylinder. As a result I cannot shoot with .357's even though the gun should be able to do so. The .357 cartridge has to forced into the cylinder to sit properly, a grossly undesirable situation.

Hmmm,
sounds like a timing issue, maybe. As far as the magnum loads not chambering easily, that could be a cylinder problem, or, when firing mostly .38's there will be a carbon ring in the cylinder that sometimes is hard to see and hard to get clean. This can cause the sticky cartridge issue. Again, I'm just thinking out loud here.

Same diameters?

Thanks for your inputs, Rodger p. But aren't .38's and .357's of the same diameter? How come the carbon ring in the cylinder hinders only the .357 cartridge?

I'm going to clean the cylinder almost immediately. I'd like to have this little gun working asap.

Thanks.

The .38 is shorter than the .357. This can cause the ring just forward of the case mouth. Then when you try to put the longer mag cartidge in they will drag on the carbon.
Hope this helps.

Eureka!!1

Rodger p, thank you so very much indeed! I used a metal brush and cleaning solution in the cylinder and... now the .357's slide naturally into place. Thanks. :) I can't say how delighted I am. And the ejection rod thing, it seems to have worked too. I MUST thank you.

I was planning on shipping the little gun back to Rossi and used the Taurus 608 as my carry weapon [certainly not concealed carry]. But...

Thanks.

A little?!

Rodger p, the gun is "little" but the job is HUGE and the purpose is even "HUGER"! Thanks in no small measure.
