Rossi .45 Colt

To anyone that has a Rossi .45 Colt lever action, what is the bullet diameter used, if you reload (cast bullets and jacketed, please)?

TIA

Probably a question better asked in the Reloading and/or Bullet Casting subsection.
I believe the Jacketed bullets are .451 for your 45 Colt.
Sierra lists them as being .4515 now that I look it up.

I size to .452" for my Rossi. To be fair though, I have not tried larger, nor have I slugged the barrel. Accuracy is fair enough though.
It runs like a champ with 1.54" to 1.6" OAL, even with short seated LSWs.

Howdy

Originally, back in 1873 the rifling groove diameter of a 45 Colt revolver was around .454. That is what .454 bullets were for. After WWII 45 Colt rifling grooves were changed to .451, to match the rifling of 45ACP. Of course we are only talking revolvers because rifles chambered for 45 Colt are a much more recent phenomenon.

I don't currently own a rifle chambered for 45 Colt, but I own plenty of revolvers chambered for the round. I always use lead bullets that are .452 in diameter, .001 over the rifling groove diameter. I have slugged plenty of 45 Colt revolvers, they are very consistent at .451.

If I owned a rifle chambered for 45 Colt, I would slug the barrel. But I am pretty sure the measurement would be .451 and I would use .452 lead bullets.

Welp, didn't get the Rossi-at Grice's in Clearfield, PA, found an "as new" Henry Golden Boy in .45 Colt, for $579.00. It came home with me today. Also got a box of Hornady's to run through it tomorrow, and then have to decide my loading for the gun.

Congrats and good find on the Henry. I have a Rossi 92 and Winchester 94', I love them both and they are certainly keepers but neither, the Rossi in particular, feel as quality and smooth as my dad's Henry's in .22 lr and .357. I will say though that the Golden Boy .357 is damn near Garand heavy...:D.

Shot the Henry today and the weight makes for a very steady hold. Was on the fence with the tube feed for a .45, but after shooting, I like it. Have dies and empty cases on the way, need to decide on bullets & powder for plinking!
