Rossi 357 2"

I'm looking at a Rossi 357 2" now. It really feels good in my hand and doesn't cost a fortune. I've read good things about Rossi nowadays. Do any of you have some feedback on this revolver, good or bad?

I considered one too until I picked up a Ruger SP101 2.25 inch .357 mag. To me there was no comparison. As the saying goes “you get what you pay for”. It kinda depends on what you want the gun for. If it is a carry piece you might want to consider “Do I want to skimp on something I might have to rely on to protect my life?” If it is a piece you are going to shoot a lot then look at something better made. If it is something you will only use a couple of times a year to shoot for fun then you could probably save some money buying it over a better and/or more expensive gun.

taurus 605 ss

for a hair more, you can get a taurus. I have one, excellent gun. I'll put it up against anything I've seen or handled. :D

Rossi 357

I have a Rossi 971 (.357 mag 2'), and I love it. I have put abour 1900 rounds through it with no problems. Rossi is made by Taurus now, and have the same Customer Service Center. I think it is a great gun, and one that has flown under the radar. It handles 357 loads very well. But as always, I suggest shooting one prior to buying.

Be safe,

Adam

I have one

I own and carry a Rossi .357 6-shot 2" revolver, despite the fact that mine got into a "situation" after less than 500 rounds; the cylinder stopped responding to trigger pulls. I sent it back to Rossi (the Taurus service center) and received prompt and courteous service (different from my experience with the much higher priced S & W). The comfortable little gun has been working fine since. Hit the POA several times at 7 yards (self defense distance).

I fail to see how a mechanical device could be judged superior simply because it inflicts a heavier price! I know of SP 101's that have disappointed their owners. Did someone once say, "A fool and his money are soon separated"?

The 2" Taurus 605 (.357mag) in stainless steel is on sale this month for less than the Rossi counterpart. Sale lasts until 4/30. At my local dealer the Taurus is $241 and the Rossi is $275.

I have heard good things about the Rossi from a local cop buddy of mine but have never fired one.

On the other hand, in the same price range, is my new Taurus 651 (357, fully lugged barrel, shrouded hammer) and I love it. Fit and finish is excellent and fits the hand very well. A big bonus is the wife loves it too :p

I have a Rossi 461 (blued, 6 shot 2" .357). The trigger pull is a little heavy but it seems fairly well made. It has about 500 rounds through it, all .357's or .38 +p's. No problems to report so far.

Benzene; I know that there are always some bad machines produced when mass production is involved. Like I said, I considered a Rossi before getting the SP. I handled a Rossi in a gun store. I was surprised by the amount of end play and rotation still in the cylinder when in full lock up. I was able to turn the cylinder where I could see shadowing down the barrel during lock up. Not good! The dealer then got a NIB out and it really wasn’t any better (although I was not able to see shadowing, the amount of rotation and end slop was still unacceptable). In these two cases I thought “a fool and his money might get some lead where he doesn’t want it”! Picked up a SP101 and never even considered the Rossi again. I shoot a lot and I decided the Ruger was the gun for me.

Ive got a Rossi 461 and its a nice pistol my grips broke first time I fired 357's Ordered a set of pacmyers and they feel much better. Wife keeps it with her loaded with 158 swchp+p.

I have a Rossi 971 And I love it. It's well finished and has a very nice trigger pull. It may be that I was lucky with it but it suits me just fine.

Rossi

Rossi's are make in Brazil using tooling "nationalized" by the gov't from Smith and Wesson. The cutting tools are not always up to the QA standards of S&W. Take a look at a .38 Rossi and compare to a Smith. Virtually identical, and parts interchange. Don't know about their heat treatment of critical parts.
